Question about 2004 BMW R 1200 C Classic

No saprk Ok, so I bought this 95 bmw 1200 c . The guy said it's been in storage for the past year and the last time he had it out, it ran, but had problems. I tried getting it started, but it wouldn't fire. I'm not getting a spark, so no I have to figure out why. Theoretically, what could go bad electrical from sitting for long periods of time? Maybe someone can give me a checklist to go through, from cheapest to most expensive? This is my first bike and I want to learn, so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    I have the same problem but my electrical system is not providing juice to the fuel pump and it will not fire. Note I have tested the fuel pump while it is in the tank using a separate and external electrical source and it does pump gas to the injection system.

    Question: when is the fuel pump started, once you turn the key on without pushing the starter button or once you push the starter button?
    Also is there a simple and low cost way of testing the Motronic system to determine if all of the features / functions are working?

Check to see if the wiring going to the coil has power if not follow it to see if it is broke if not it could be your pulser or your cdi. if there is power going to the coil and it aint firing that means the coil is bad

    franklinjb. the fuel pump starts pumping as soon as you turn on the key. without touching any thing. good luck davidbaxley.

You most buy a new battery and then check cdi box for faults.If you have tried to start a bmw with a bad battery you can f...... the box and that cost a lot of money.

FYI - the first model year for the r1200c was 1998, so your bike is at least a few a years newer than 1995

You might want to check the ingition coils first and if they are good check the spark plug wires that is the most common problem with no fire.also check the spark plugs see if they are set right.I had the same problem with my honda cb 650 custom and all i did was change the wires

Hi just bought a BMW C R 1200, being standing for long , last had service 300km ago. Think could be petrol, how would i drain. thanks Len.

When you are going to leave any vehicle sitting or standing for extended periods of time you should always drain the gas, as gas gets very funky over time. Although this may not be the problem. If you just bought the bike and it hasnt run since you bought it, I would have a mechanic look at both the engine and all of the electrical work.

Wont start

Carbs are all gummed up... they will need to be taken off and cleaned.

Bought a new vector maxxsst 1200 watt inverter

Inverter run on batteries sir, and if these batteries are not charged, the run time {the number of hours it will work} reduces.
S0, you will need to connect the inverter to a power source.Theses will allow your batteries to be charged and enable it to run for a long period of time.
Make sure your batteries are still OK.i.e working properly

Should be under the seat ... find the two bolts that typically hold the back of the seat down .. remove them to find the battery box.

Alternatively, you could check in your owners manual or if you dont have one ... you might look at the manufacturers web site or

Lastly, you could stop by the motorcycle shop parts department and mane a friend of the counterman. They know everything ... and are generally willing to talk.

Your ABS pump is faulty.

Contact these guys: motorcycle repair

They repair the ABS units with a 5 year warranty.
