Question about 2002 BMW R 1200 C Avantgarde

1 Answer

Bogging I have been lurking around here for a bit and now I need some help. I have a bmw r 1200 special II. I have been learning to ride it for the last month. I was coming back from visiting the parents and was doing a steady 60mph on the highway, I started to come up a hill and the bike bogged down. After that, even back down the hill, it would not go more than 55. You could tell it wasn't running right, felt heavy and slow/no acceleration. I moved off the road and looked the bike over for a bit and when I fired it back up and moved on it ran fine until I got back, about 10 miles after that. It happened again on the freeway this week. Was going around town and jumped on the freeway. I was going 70 for just a few minutes and it started again. Luckily traffic was slowing down so the bike was able to keep up, but it would struggle to do 55 after that. After exiting I was slowing down for a red light and the bike stalled. It did this a few more times but was able to keep it running while sitting at the other lights with a little gas to keep the idle a little higher. It had half a tank of gas the first time, and full the second. It was about 60 degrees both days. I can drive around town for hours without a problem. Is it overheating on the highway? Is the bike too small for these speeds? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Next time it happens, pop the gas cap and see if the problem stops. Can you hear/feel air rushing in when you open the cap? If you can, you have a clogged gascap vent. You can try to take it apart and and clean/fix the one you got, or just buy a new cap.

After starting my 2009 BMW R1200GS the fuel guage showed over half a tank, it was warming up and then the low fuel warning light came on. The fuel guage is completely blank, no bars at all. Any thoughts on...

The fuel gauge sensor on my 2008 1200GS Adventure was defective and needed replacement. On my first ride after buying it new from the dealer it showed full (all bars), but ran out of gas on my first ride. No further problems, and it is now 40,000 miles.
Hope this helps.

Where can i buy a repair manual for BMW R1200C ? or does anyone know how to bleed the clutch on the R1200C ?

Clymer lists a manual covering the R1200C as item #M5033.

the BMW factory manual is available from your BMW dealer in CD.

You need a special bleed fitting to bleed the clutch on your R1200C motorcycle. Other than the special fitting, the clutch bleed process is very conventional. I can't locate the part number for the speacial fitting right now, but a goood BMW dealer can order it for you.

Where is the oil plug on a 2006 BMW 1200 RT?

It is under the engine near the oil filter. You need an 8mm hex key to remove it and you should replace the crush washer and torque it to 30Nm to prevent leaks. NOTE: there is also a drain plug for the transmission which is located on the trans. behind the engine. Don't confuse the two.

You will need a special oil filter wrench to remove and replace the oil filter.

Good Luck!

Is it a very big job or expensive job to replace valve guide seals on BMW K100 `smokes somtimes when started

Learn to like smoke. Smell that sweet aroma. . . The repair is very involved and requires some special tools. The cost is around $800 ( I think ). Call a dealer or two and get a quote from each one.
