Well, this one seems pretty straightforward. The oil light and lack of pressure mean that your oil pump has quit pumping (assuming that you've verified that there is oil in the crankcase). The grinding noise is common when running any internal combustion engine without oil pressure. That's the sound of the engine destroying itself. _________________

Grinding noise in either motor, gearbox or drive shaft on low speed going uphill. Gets worse when going faster. Souns like something needs oil change or top-up.

Look at the universal joints on the 2 ends of the drive shaft. The hubs may have dried up and wore out you might be grinding metal. If so, you need to replace the universal joints before the drive shaft falls out.

Had a similer problem with my L1 recently and narrowed it down to the cluctch not getting enough oil through so changed cylinder put an ebc clutch in and serviced entire clutch system and thankfully seems of done the trick now no gearbox or clutch noise and goes throug the gears superbly with no slipping or noise even when going for it

Loucd clicking noise no oil pressure 08 roadglide

Hi G.R., and the usual suspects are:
1. Oil tank/pan underfilled.
2. Faualty low oil pressure switch.
3. Oil pump o-rings damaged or missing.
4. Oil pressure relief valve stuck in the open position.
5. Ball missing from cam support plate.
Good luck and have nice day.

Oil light comes on and engine shuts down at the same time. Oil level is good. This happens after about 3-5 minutes on the road. Engine will start up again if I wait a few minutes. The engine stall happens...

try a new oil pressure sender,
you could also fit a gauge into the oil sender hole and see if it has oil pressure.
There could be other reasons like a faulty oil filter, problem with bypass in oil pump, or a shorted or broken wire causing the shut down and light on.
If it is actually losing oil pressure and shutting down it would probably be making strange noises

Oil light came on and engine started to make more noise before I shut down. Drained oil and put in new and tried and oil light still stayed on. When I changed oil there was some sludge on plug. What do I...

You say your oil light came on and your engine started "to make more noise". You engine is equipped with hydraulic tappets. If you lost oil pressure, the tappets would have sounded like rocks in a tin can. If you think you have an oil pressure problem, you can check the oil pressure with a gauge. Just in front of the cam chest, there is an oil pressure sending unit. You can unscrew this unit and screw in an oil pressure gauge. Start the engine and see how much pressure you're running. You must use a high quality gauge to test the pressure and you must know how much pressure the engine is supposed to have. I'm sorry but I don't have any specs for the Twin Cam engines. But, if you don't have any oil pressure, your tappets will let you know. They will be noticably loud. Check the wire on the pressure switch and you may want to replace the pressure sending unit.

Good Luck
Steve

Red light comes on on the dash, far right hand side. is this not regarding the water level? I have filled up the radiator but still it has come on 2 days in a row now. Not sure what the problem is?

Hi, Mikedudley80 it may be your oil pressure light for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. I have a knocking sound on my 2005 r6. i was working fine on sunday but when i started it up on tuesday i hear a knocking.

first , do not panic nor rev your motor .
you have first check the oil condition and level .
Does the oil pump light or oil pressure light stays on ?
you have to make sure your oil is not too old as well .
your bike has been serviced recently ?
you have to work with process of elimination .
with the few things i have asked and mention above you should make sure all these are ok .
After checking all these and the noise persist , you will have the following to check :
- check your spark plugs for oil burning .
- check coolant level and trace of oil in it
- try to locate the source of noise , top , bottom of motor
- does the noise increases when giving gas .
- does the noise sound heavy or " tin " noise
check all these and get back to me and i will try to give you more explanation.
