Radiator issue my radiator fan wont come on.iv replaced temp. switch, off/on switch in radiator. no fuses blown please help

Cooling fan not coming on I can make it come on by turning A/C on the other thing is I can pull the fuse out and the fans come on put fuse back in the fan cuts off please help


Hi Matt ,

In this case if after pulling fuse fan get start it means all the wiring, relay and fan is fine you just need to replace the thermostat/Tempratue sensor sensor, it comes on the radiator.

check the 25 amp fuse that had fan rad on it . Check the fuses under the dash. Finally replace the fan switch in the head as it may not be communicating with the CPU to put power through the fan relay

Radiator resivoir is cracked and fans not running and i need to replace the radiator and or run a toggle switch for the fan relay switch if the wiring is bad


It may already have a blown head gasket. The max pressure on the cooling system in normal conditions is 18psi.
How do you know the fan or fans are ok ? The computer signals the relay to turn the fans on if the engine temp reaches 220 degrees or you turn on the a/c. If the temp sensor does not have coolant to tell it the engine temp, the fans won't come on.
As for a toggle switch, you would need a relay mounted close to the fans because they will pull too much current thru only a switch.

Changed engine temp sensor and fuse relay. Only one fan turns on and car still overheats


Hello and welcome to FixYa! If you have overheating problem, it can lead to multipleissues. You may be running on low coolant that's why the vehicle overheats. Ifthat's the case, please add coolant and make sure that it sits on the rightlevel, too much coolant can cause overheating too for coolant will overflow. The vehicle may have a faulty or worn out radiator blowermotor that's why it overheats. If that's the case then you will need a blowermotor replacement to resolve the issue. If the radiator is clogged with dirt and rusts this issueoccurs too. The coolant doesn't flow normally on the cooling system if it'sclogged. If that's the case, I strongly suggest that you have the radiatorflushed to drain out dirt and rusts. If you think that the radiator served youenough then it's better to have it replaced. Please do check the radiator hoses, If you have worn outhoses it can cause coolant leakage which can result to overheating. A tiny holeis good enough for the vehicle to overheat. A faulty thermostat sensor can cause the issue too. If youhave worn out thermostat, the fan may not trigger that's why the fan won't workwhen under stressed conditions. A blown radiator blower fuse can cause thisissue too so I suggest that you check the radiator blower fuse and replace itwhen necessary. What causes the radiator blower fan fuse to blow? It's becauseof a failing radiator blower motor, If that's the case have the radiator blowerfan motor replaced. If the fluid in radiator doesn't circulate then it meansthat you have a blown head gasket or a faulty water pump. I suggest that you gofor the water pump replacement first specially if you think that it's near theend of it's service life. Usually, water pops out the radiator when engine isreved (a sign of faulty water pump and possible blown head gasket). Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank youfor using FixYa! My 2005 Yamaha R6 is overheating at idle...like sitting at red lights.. I wonder if its a temp switch or a blown fuse, or even a wiring problem. Any help?


if your cooling fan is not switching on then i would check fuses then if all fuses are good check for 12V at you cooling fan when temp gets between half and 3/4 way to hot . if you have no voltage it could be a temp sensor or relay . if you have voltage there your fan motor has gone bad and needs to be replaced . another thing to check is the hoses running to the radiator . let the bike idle and warm up and check the temp of the radiator hoses . if one is much cooler than it should be then you might have a bad thermostat on your bike and its not opening enough to let coolant flow at idle. water pump could be going bad as well. if the bike warms up and fan does not kick on untill you rev it up a bit i would check the thermostat and waterpump

Well, here's the list. First check for blown fuse. Check wire from fan to temp sensor on engine block. Check to see if you have a good connection thorough the temp sensor, if not it will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Radiator fan not working


Hi. Check the bottom of the radiator or on the side, as you also have a temperature-sending switch. The switch must reach a certain temperature before sending a signal on to the fan relay.

The switch just screws into the radiator.
