Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic

4 Answers

Engine stalls I have a 2000 HD ElectraGlide Ultra that I bought used in 2002. In '03 the engine died while I was driving it a couple of times, both when it was very hot out. This was a rare occurrance until this summer when it has happened in a variety of conditions and became more and more frequent as the summer wore on. I have checked the crankcase and camshaft sensors and checked as much of the wiring as I can get to. It will just shut down as if the switch were turned off, then after a minute or so will start up again. When it happens, everything on the dash goes dead and the speedo stays where it was when the power went off. It must be electrical but I don't know what to check next. Any ideas?

I have checked the battery cables. Also have installed a new battery and stator since this started (not because of it) and still have the problem. I'll try the voltage drop test. Unfortunately it is now too cold to road test so I unless the test shows something I'll have to wait until warmer weather. Thanks for your response.

I'm trying all the suggestions and am hoping they solve the problem. Of course I won't know until I get a chance to do a day trip and that could be spring in my part of the world (Wyoming). I'll let you know how things go.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Thanks! That's something new to check. Also an easy fix if that turns out to be it. I appreciate the help!

Remove the outer fairing skin and pay close attention to the wires that cross the support brackets. These have been knoown to ground and trip the breakers which automatically reset after a minuit.

First I would check the charging system with a voltmeter. If its not in the charging system, and u dont have a scanalyzer try a voltage drop test to check your wiring between your battery and solenoid. I am assuming you've checked your battery cables

Good luck bud. Finding an electrical problem can be a bear. I'd also check the bank angle sensor and the wiring in your hand controls. I guess you'll have something to do this winter......

Let me know when ya find it

I cannot find oil drain plug on 2000 harley electrsglide classic

The oil tank on your ElectraGlide is on the bottom of the transmission. The oil drain is usually the plug closest to the left front corner of the pan. Loosen the plug just enough to drain a bit of oil out and look at it. If it's engine oil,it should be black. If you loosen the transmission drain plug, it will be much cleaner looking oil.

Good Luck

Where are the motor mounts located on the 2000 electraglide

There is a front motor mount at the down tubes in the front of the frame and the rear motor mount is located in the frame back where the swing arm attaches. There are also some "stabilizers" that look kinda like turnbuckles at the top of the engine.

1990 HD FLHTCU ElectraGlide no power

On most electraglides, there is what we call an accessories wire at the battery positive post or the starter terminal where the postitive battery cable connects. This is usually a red wire of larger gauge and goes directly to the main circuit breaker. From there, it goes to the switch. Start at the copper terminal of your main circuit breaker and work backwards if you are not getting any power anywhere as you state.

Also check your ground to the negative side of the battery. Without a good ground, you won't get any power. If you have a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) check from the ground lug on the frame to the engine. Sometimes if your repaint or powder coat your frame, you lose the grounding from the engine to the frame. Make sure all your grounds are good. Hope this helps, Good Luck, Steve

After riding a couple hundred miles my FXD died. I checked the oil and topped off with gas before leaving. After it died I checked the oil and dipstick showed very low. After sitting an hour, it showed 1/2...

First of all, your oil level has nothing to do with your bike stalling. Best way to check it is with engine cold. Shoot for halfway between full and add marks.Your levels are normal. The engine retains some oil after running. It takes awhile to drain back into the case. Please clarify your stalling problem. How fast were you going? Sitting still. Only upon startup after a drive?
