That message comes on every 20,000 miles, just like the oil change note at 10,000 miles. It doesn't mean anything special. You don't have to even do anything except turn it off.

To turn it off:
Get in the driver seat with the key in your hand.
Turn the hazard lights on (emergency flashers).
Press the trip meter to where it reads the trip miles and hold it there.
While you're holding the trip meter button, turn the ignition on.
Release the trip meter button, and press the selection botton on the other side of the cluster.
The "inspection" text should be gone.
You know you've done it right when the trip miles return to what they originally were when you started.
It is the same process for resetting the oil change text. Just no flashers.

Depends on the model but looking at the dials, the left one might have a plastic button protruding from the glass with trip marked! Press and hold till the trip resets to 0!

Put the ignition key on , using trip meter button switch display to odometer.
Switch ignition key off.
Press and hold trip meter button , switch the key on ,
continue to hold button for at least 5 sec.
Display indicates " 000000 " and " MAINT REQD " lamp will go off , resetting is complete.

This is the reset proceedure for a 2008 Highlander with a key-type ignition:

Turn the key ON, do not start the engine.

Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "TRIP A". If it is on "ODO" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "TRIP A".

Turn the key OFF.

Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it IN.
DO not release it.

Turn the key ON, do not start the engine

Observe the Odometer display. You will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, whatever number that was displayed on "TRIP A" will be re-displayed..

Now release the black trip meter reset stick.

This completes the reset procedure, and it will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change

1. Set the "ENGINE START STOP" or engine switch OFF with the trip meter A reading shown.
2. While pressing the trip meter reset button, set the "ENGINE START STOP" switch or engine switch ON.

Without multi-information display

1. Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter displays 000000.

With multi-information display

1. Continue to press and hold the button until "COMPLETE" appears on the multi-information display.
