Hi,

basically, the brake light is activated by either the front or the foot brake. Each has a small switch coupled to either the brake lever or the brake pedal. To check if it is the front brake lever, look closely on the right handlebar area where the front brake lever pivots. There would be a small switch with two (2) wires. Often this wires are connected by a spade type connector, remove any of the the two connector/wire and observe if the brake light would switch off. If yes, shorted front brake switch, if not, then chances are that the culprit is the foot brake. There are variations of designs how the foot brake activates the brake light. Most would call for a linkage (either short cable or metal rod). from the foot brake to a small tubular switch. Try removing any or both wires/connectors to the foot brake switch. If brake light is till one, then problem is elsewhere. If brake light is off, then the foot brake switch needs looking into. Often found faults is mis-adjusted switch. The switch rotates on a threaded tab. The switch has to be adjusted till the brake light powers off. In some cases, the swith has to be replaced.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

How to service brake switch

Hi Fareed, a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. There are 2 switches that activate the brake light. One in the RH handlebar and the other on the rear brake pedal. The rear is activated by a spring connected to the brake pedal. Unhook the spring and see if the light goes out. If it does the unit can be adjusted by screwing the switch further toward the brake pedal (Turning clockwise)but you will have to undo the lock nut first. What usually happens is that the rear brake pedal return spring gets worn out and the pedal starts to droop slightly thereby activating the brake light switch.
To check the front switch. Disconnect th RH handlebar wire harness behind the headlight.(just follow the wires from the handle to their connector. Repair of the switch is rarely succesfull, replacement being your best bet.

Abs light flashing alternatively when putting ignition on

There is a simple way to fix it as I've discovered. Start your bike, if lights are flashing ride for a mile or two applying the rear brake a few times. Stop the bike and place on centre stand. switch off motor then restart. Your flashing lights should have gone. Why the flashing happens is if you ride and use your rear brake rarely and then your bike sits for a day or two without use your rear brake assembly fully retracts, ie pads away from disc and ABS gizzmos inactive. The ABS sensor unit then reports extended non use pattern to the onboard 'brain' which activates the warning mode of flashing lights. This has worked for me several times over the last 5 years when its occured. Full ABS operations return. Tried it on a mates bike and it fixed same problem on his.
