There is no indication as to whether or not this is a carburator motor, however it sounds like the jets need to be cleaned, a small build up or piece of debris on the jets would cause this.

Hi, Mellymel you may have a clutch issue for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. Go online and find the closest triumph dealer to your area, can go to triumph motorcycle website and find your closest dealer, just call them and they can look up the part you need and send it out to you, also can Check EBay Motors for bike parts. Hope that helps. Rick.

Where can i get a manual or blueprints of the 1950 triumph 649 thunderbird, the one brando rode in the wild one... i model bikes and i want to make an exact model of brando,s ...thanks

There are many workshop manuals (aftermarket) available through "Whitehorse" -- or go on Amazon and try to find a Triumph Twins restoration manual that would have photos of early pre-unit models like the Thunderbird. [[www.whitehorsepress.com/ ]]

Check fuel filter and air filter, then spark plugs, not necessarily in that order.

What wire can i tap into when fixing two 35 watt spotlights onto a 2003 triumph speedmaster / America,i want them live on dip and head ? Thanks

DONT RECOMMEND TAPPING INTO ANY WIRE FOR THOSE WATTAGE LITES! RUN A SEPERATE CIRCUIT FROM THE BATTERY ON A FUSED SWITCH. THIS WAY YOU WONT HAVE ANY OVERLOADS OR SHORTED WIRES!

After starting the bike up and moving away the digital speedo stays on 0 and i have to keep stopping switching it of and restarting until it works

This is a known issue with Triumph Triples from 2002/2003 - there was a 'feature' in the ECM code called speedo error check which looks at the battery voltage and disables the speedo if below boundaries.
However this feature was extremely problematic from the very outset - even brand new batteries would suffer this issue.
It is exactly as you described - typically at first start it will disable - speedo reads zero; a subsequent re-start will restore. No in between - either works or doesn't work (a reading that is inconsistent to actual speed is more likely to be a speed sender issue).
Triumph received so many complaints that they disbaled the feature in subsequent revisions.
The solution is to have your dealer upload the latest edition of 'tune' for your model into your ECM.
Unfortunately this is not something you can do yourself.
Depending on your relationship with dealer, some will do this free - or charge a nominal fee around $50.

This will 100% fix your problem.
