You can't do this without its original remote control.

  • Anonymous May 02, 2012

Thank you, I thought that might be the case. But I don't know where to get the original control from as the machine is now getting quite old. I guess I'll just replace the VCR with some modern digital technology.
    Many thanks for your help.

SOURCE: philips universal codes

If you dont have the codes for a philips universal remote you have to press code search and TV at the same time till the led light stays on. Then press the power button a few times untill the power turns your TV off, then press the OK button. After that the code should be in the remote.

What does RF out mean and spdif mean. Plz

RF out means Radio Frequency output. That will send out video and usually audio to a compatible device like a TV. For example connecting a VCR or older games console was done with the RF out on the VCR or console sending the picture and sound to the TV.
S/PDIF is a Sony /Philips Digital Interface Format.
It is a means of sending sound from one device to another. For example from a Blu-Ray player to a surround sound system. This is usually done with a Toslink lead that uses light to send the information but apparently it can use RCA leads, I've never seen that.

I want to adjust the VCR operating frequency on model MX 728E. The VCR frequency clashes with that of a local TV station and it interferes with reception and you have ''ghost' images in the background

Depending on the age of the VCR it will have either a small screw on the back near the aerial socket, or the adjustment will be on a onscreen menu somewhere. It will be called the "RF OUTPUT".
They way to do them is for the screw type - turn it slightly - then with a video playing (something that you can tell what to look for) retune your TV. You might need to do this several times to get clear of stations.
With the menu type you just need to enter a RF number. This is often the best type as most VCR's give you the full RF range. Whereas the screw will only be a short range. Enter a RF frequency number which will be well away from broadcast stations. You can find which TV stations broadcast on the frequences in your area by looking it up in Google. Once entered, play a video and retune the TV to it.
Some VCR's allow the output to be switched off. You can use this option if you have the VCR connected via a scart lead. As you don't need to have the TV tuned in to the VCR.

(replace 10 volt caps in this section of the radio to a minimum of 16 volts before increasing supply voltage to this level)and provide faster swing rise time, Replace Q37 2SA473 to a 2SA1012-0 or ECG153 this will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation and it will also run a lot cooler.

Panasonic NV-SJ205 Changing Rf ?

ok. This is a really easy one.
All you have to do is hold down the menu button on the remote control for more than 5 seconds, If that doesnt work hold down the power button on the remote control for more than 5 seconds. If that doesnt work hold down the power button on the actual vcr unit for 15 seconds. The first method should work for Panasonic's fine.
This will then display your current rf output.
You can then change the output by using the up and down arrows or the channel up and down button on your remote or the vcr unit.
Press menu button to save or the same button you used to bring up the rf opposition eg power button on remote or the unit.

all the best. Top tech

Akai VSG285 video - I can't tune any TV stations thru to the VCR?

This sounds like a hookup or programming problem.

The typical hookup is cable/satellite box output to VCR antenna/RF input, then VCR antenna/RF output to television input. Since you are able to watch pre-recorded tapes, the latter is already correct. There are other ways to connect, using the audio/video outputs of VCR to audio/video inputs of the TV. Older or low end TV sets may not have these connections.

If by chance you are using an outdoor antenna (not cable or satellite) then the antenna connects to VCR antenna/RF input and VCR output as above. You will also need to program the VCR into the stations- most late VCRs will scan for active channels, and program themselves to those channels.

I'm not sure of the capabilities of newer cable & sat boxes, but generally, you had to tune that box to the channel you wanted to record. The VCR is set to channel 3 or 4 depending on the output of the cable box.

Lastly, most VCRs of the last 10+ years require the remote to setup advanced functions, such as timed record, date & channel setup functions. The buttons on the VCR itself only do very basic functions, Stop/Play/Rewind/F-forward/Eject etc.

If you don't have the orig. remote, some universal remotes may be able to do advanced programming functions.
