How to replace the thermal fuse in lgq8611lw1

Check exhaust line, if stopped up computer will shut down to keep it from catching fire

Check the internal thermal fuse, which is located within the back panel. The fuse is about an inch long and oval-shaped.

If your dryer is not getting hot, the thermal fuse may be blown. Instead of calling an expensive repairman, you can replace this simple part yourself in less than an hour. Make sure you purchase the correct replacement fuse for your make and model of dryer. Your owner's manual should have a list of compatible part numbers. You may also be able to order a replacement directly from your dryer manufacturer's website.

Things You'll Need

• Hex nut screwdriver
• Replacement thermal fuse

1. • 1 Disconnect the dryer from the electrical outlet. Remove the dryer vent from the back of the dryer by loosening the retaining screw on the clamp attaching the vent to the dryer's exhaust port and sliding the vent off of the port.
     
   • 2 Remove the hex nuts holding the dryer's rear panel in place. Slide the panel off to the side of the dryer. Locate the thermal fuse on the heating element housing on the right side of the dryer. The fuse is an oval-shaped part located near the top of the housing.
     
   • 3 Slide the thermal fuse wires off of the contact terminals on the fuse. Remove the hex nut holding the fuse in place and remove the old fuse.
     
   • 4 Place a new fuse on the housing and replace the hex nut. Reconnect the thermal fuse wires. Replace the dryer's rear panel and plug the dryer back into the electrical outlet.

Unplug your dryer from its electrical outlet. make sure that all electricity has been disconnected from your dryer before moving on

turn off the gas valve that supplies gas to your dryer. Remove the gas flex line at the shut-off valve using an adjustable wrench.


Remove your dryer's back panel. take out the screws on the back of the dryer and the panel will come free. set the panel and screws aside until you are ready to replace them.


locate the thermal fuse between the dryer's blower housing and exhaust. the thermal fuse looks like a white plastic strip with two connected wires.


unplug the wires connected to the thermal fuse.


remove the screw that secures the thermal fuse to your dryer. set the screw aside and discard the broken thermal fuse.


replace the thermal fuse screw to attach the new replacement thermal fuse to your dryer.


reconnect the wires to the thermal fuse.

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Phillips and hex nut screwdrivers
* Replacement thermal fuse
* Replacement thermostat

1. Disconnect the dryer from the electrical outlet.
2. Slide a putty knife between the top panel and front panel on the left side. Slide the knife toward the center of the dryer to release the left-side spring clip. Repeat the process on the right side. Lift the top panel up and rotate toward the back of the dryer. The thermal fuse and thermostat are located along the dryer's back wall, attached to the heating element housing.
3. Disconnect the two wires from the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is an inch-long rectangular plastic part, located near the top of the heating element housing. Remove the screw holding the thermal fuse in place. Remove the old fuse. Place a new fuse on the housing and replace the screw. Reconnect the wires to the fuse.
4. Remove the wires on the thermostat. The thermostat is a black, oval-shaped part located just below the thermal fuse. Remove the screws holding the thermostat in place and slide it out of its slot on the heating element housing. Slide a new thermostat into the slot and replace the screw. Reconnect the wires.
5. Lower the dryer's top panel and press down until the spring clips lock into place. Plug the dryer back into the electrical outlet.

Hello Friend, Your problem is very simple to fix. I'm assuming that you have a standsrd model Whilpool dryer. You didn't specify if you have a gas or electric model so I have given you the basic instruction to repair both models.

IF GAS DRYER FOLLOW THESE STEPS: You're dryer needs a thermal fuse and or gas valve coils, and maybe an igniter all three are very simple and affordable to replace. To replace the thermal fuse just remove back cover of dryer and look down where the air blows out. Now, just to the left where all the wires are you will see a white plastic part with two wires plugged into it. This part is called a thermal fuse. Just remove these wires and replace the thermal fuse. Now, if this don't solve the problem you will need a gas valve coil kit. To replace coils just remove front of dryer body and look below drum you will see the gas valve. The valve coils are located on top of valve (two little round black cylinders). It's simple, just remove the two screws from the little metal bracket that holds them down, unplug the wires from them and just lift them straight up off of the valve. Take notice that one has 3 wires and one has 2 wires. Just replace with new coils and plug wires back in and re-fasten metal bracket. Your dryer will run like new, if it doesn't then you will need to check the igniter. The igniter is attached to the end of the burner assymbly by one screw and a simple two wire plug. Inspect for breakage, and replace if needed.

Try replacing the thermal fuse first to see if that's the problem. To replace the thermal fuse just remove back cover of dryer and look down where the air blows out. Just remove these wires and replace the thermal fuse. If this don't solve your problem you will need to replace the heater element. To replace the heater element, with the back cover off of your dryer just look down and to the right of were the air blows out. You will see the electric heating unit with two fat red wires plugged into it. Unplug these wires and you will see on the sheetmetal housing two screws that hold it on, one on each side. On older elctric dryers there is only one screw that holds element in place, it is on the bottom center of element screwed in from behind. Remove screw(s) and remove old heater element. Now, lay the new element next to the old one and take notice that there is a heat sensor attached to the old element where one of the red wires unplugged from. Gently remove this sensor and install it onto the new element in the same location as the old one. If you have an older electric dryer, the old heater element doesn't have the heat sensor on it, just skip this step. Now, plug in your two red wires and re-install your heater element. Your dryer will run like new.

There is many different things it could be! most of the time it is not the heating element. You have thermal fuses and safety switches. I bet you 10 to 1 if you locate the thermal fuse on the element cannon say 1 foot up from the incoming voltage from the wires to the heating element.

1. either disconnect power to the unit, take continuity on every fuse try the one i suggested first.
2. the same exact fuse im talking about disconnect power and connect both wires together, dont ground it out, plug power back in and then try it.

If this is a gas dryer the MOST COMMON problem would be a thermal fuse usually located in the back of the dryer. you would have to remove the back panel their is only 9 screws securing it. The thermal fuse is going to be white with 2 wires and 1 screw . Unplug the dryer remove the wires from thermal fuse and put them together temporary using tape make sure metal ends make contact and they do not touch any thing else. plug dryer back in and turn on. if every thing works than replace the thermal fuse and clean out your duct

There should be a wiring diagram inside the operating console. Locate the thermal fuse and/or thermal cut-out and ensure they check good. They both should read close to a short if good. They are mounted adjacent to the heating element.
