You have a problem. Do not start that engine until you figure out what has happened. The capacity is less than 5 quarts with an oil filter change and only 4 without. I suspect that you may be pouring the oil into the wrong area and have made a big error. Oil should show on the dip stick at about 2-3 quarts.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Safari. The dipstick is the problem. It is not making it into the oil reservoir. I had put 7.25 quarts in and it does not show up on the dipstick. But, the dipstick is binding up in the insertion tube and not reading the oil level. I can assure you the oil is being put in the "engine oil fill" tube. I have not figured out what is happening with the dipstick tube yet. I have seen them come apart on my truck. Every time I put the dipsick in the Safari it binds up and is very tricky to get it to make all the turns it has to make.

How do i change automatic transmission fluid ?

There's no drain plug so you may get a bit of a bath. Remove all the transmission oil pan bolts except one on each end then slowly back the 2 remaining screws out but don't remove them, now carefully pry a little on the pan it will drop until the bolts hold it push the pan back up with one hand and remove the bolts with the other then lower the pan, dump the oil, clean the pan and magnet, change the filter. The gasket is reusable unless someone changed it, intall the pan and gasket with 3 quarts of the fluid type stamped into the dipstick like mercon 5, then start the engine run the transmission through the gears then check the fluid the total should end up being 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 qts. The total capacity of the transmission and toque converter is 12-13 qts depending on the transmission cooler. Do not over fill.

Probably 4 qts. Start with 3 qts first. Use your dipstick to be sure. You can always call a Ford Service Advisor and ask.

How can I change the car oil

Basic procedure for almost all vehicles:
Warm engine to operating temperature. (Hot oil drains more quickly and more completely) Raise vehicle enough to crawl under it on your back (secure with wood blocks or jack stand so it doesn't slip off jack) set parking brake to avoid roll. Get a suitable container for used oil, (at least 5QT capacity) Locate oil pan, will have a plug with a bolt head on it on bottom corner of pan. (usually middle bottom of the engine in location) Loosen and remove oil plug being careful not to get hot oil on your hand. (gloves recommended) Locate oil filter on either underside or toward the side of engine. Remove oil filter with oil filter wrench. (they are usually on too tight to remove by hand) Allow to drain thoroughly for about 10 minutes. Coat new oil filter gasket with fresh motor oil. Screw oil filter on until contact with housing , then an additional 1/4 turn. Replace oil plug. Tighten to 45 ft lbs, or pretty tight, do not over tighten. Lower vehicle. (On level ground) Fill engine with correct weight oil (probably 10W-30W for yours) 4 QTS. Remove oil check dipstick and wipe. Start motor, allow to run for 30 seconds to fill up oil filter and circulate well. Shut off engine, wait 1 minute for oil to drain back into the oil pan, then check oil level with dipstick. Add more as needed to reach full mark on dipstick. (4.5 QTS for V6, 5 QTS for V8 usually) DO NOT OVERFILL! Start motor, check for leaks under vehicle. If ok, you are done. I use the 5QT containers of oil (cheaper too) and then put used oil back into empty container and take to a recycling station for disposal.

How many quarts of 5w30 oil is needed to do an oil change on a 2002 gmc 3500 non diesel box truck? Thanks for your help in an advance.

Oil capacity varies with oil pan size, oil coolers, or remote filter locations, so it is best to consult the owner's manual for your specific application.

My 97dodge intrepid is leaking oil and i want to know where is the oil pan?

Hi. You might need to Replace the oil pan gasket is the oil is leaking. Here's the procedure on how to Replace the oil pan gasket.

1. Jack up the front end of the car and slide a jack stand under the vehicle. Make sure the jack stand is securely in place, and then put blocks in front of the rear wheels to keep them from rolling.

2. Slide under the car and put a drain pan under the drain plug of the oil pan. Loosen the drain plug with a socket wrench and allow all of the old oil to drain into the pan. Remove the old oil filter.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the dipstick and its housing. Remove the collar on the rear of the oil pan. If the vehicle is equipped with engine oil cooler lines that lead to the oil pan, remove them as well, along with transmission oil cooler clips.

4. Remove the bolts holding the oil pan, and carefully remove the oil pan. Remove the old gasket. Scrape it with a putty knife if necessary, but be very careful not to scratch the surface.

5. Wipe out the oil pan with a clean cloth or paper towel, and wipe the joining surface of the oil pan with cleaning fluid or solvent. Apply a thin bead of automotive sealer and install the new gasket.

6. Replace the oil pan, tightening the bolts securely. Replace the transmission oil cooler clips, engine oil cooler lines, oil pan collar, dipstick housing and dipstick, and reconnect the negative battery cable. Install a new oil filter.

7. Take the car off the jack stand and fill the engine with the appropriate amount of SAE 10W-30 or SAE 5W-30.

All the best!

4 cylinder oil capacity

Most 4 cylinder engines have a capacity of between 4 and 5 liters.
I would put 4 liters in , run the engine for a minute or two , wait a couple more minutes for the oil to drain back down into the oil pan , and then check the dipstick. Vehicle should be on reasonably level ground to get and accurate dipstick reading.

Have a 2000 mazda millenia S . How much oil does it need?

normal with oil filter is 4.3 qts. do not trust the dipstick, it is a very crude measuring device. the best way to find out exactly where on the dipstick to look, is to completely drain your oil, and change the filter. do this when the engine is warm, and let it drain for a while. then, add fresh oil and filter, exactly 4.3 qts, and start it for a minute(to get the oil thru the filter). let it sit for at least 30 minutes to allow all the oil to get back into the sump. THEN see where it is on the dipstick. on both our cars, the dipstick shows almost a qt low, even tho 4.3 qts has been added.

What type of oil (brand\weight) do I use in a 2008 kia rio? Also how much oil does it hold?

i suggest you use 5w 30 full synthetic oil, preferably Mobil 1. put 4 qts of oil then check the dipstick if you should need more. I also suggest that you check the dipstick after the car had not been used for couple of hour and the oil had settled at the bottom (oil pan) so you can have more accurate reading.
