1985 yamaha virago carberator problems... gas leaking out of the carberator ..took it off ,cleaned diaphram . still leaks gas after we shut if off, also sprays gas out of exhaust when throttled

Hi, Carol and the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.

Starts and idles fine. Dies if you try to give it gas.

check that the carb jets are clean if one is blocked up even just a little the motor wont rev up well also check that you have a good fule flow to carb and the air filter is clean,,
you can check the jets in the carb by giving the bike a little choke then try reving it up if it revs it has a blocked jet in the carb

My bike is spitting and sputtering.. I am a female without a husband

Did you park the bike over the winter without treating the gas? Gas will leave a lacker type coating on the needles of the carberators . Good chance that is the problem . May need to get the carbs cleaned.Sorry for not good news.

Plastic piece on the carberator has cracked and letting too much air into the fule system . dose anyone know how to fix or locate that plastic piece without buying a whole new carberator?

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock.

CARBURATOR KIT

Remove the carburetor slide from the throat of each carb. Now move the clip on the jet needle down one notch and put the carb back together. There is a notch on the side of the carb slide. When installing, it lines up with a pin inside the throat of the carb.

Yamaha timberwolf 4x4 carberator issues

Hi,

Firstly, if you are not a mechanical person you should never buy a vehicle that does not run.
However, here are some basic tests.
1. Connect a good battery.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Turn the motor using the starter motor or kick starter.
4. check for spark by inserting a new plug into the plug cap. (make sure the plug is grounded).

If the motor turns freely and there is spark, chances are good that the motor will run. This does not mean that the motor is in a good condition. Only with the motor running will you be able to know for sure.

You will now have to source a carb and fit it to the 4 wheeler.
Fitting the carb is not too difficult. Check that the intake manifold is not perished or torn, and remember to use the airfilter.

Enjoy the ride !
