i believe it is a yamaha it might help if not too far gone if that's what it is. you could need a drive belt too. there is an adjustment for the clutch on the throttle side of the bike on the motor/trans. it looks like a nut with a slotted screw thru the middle, not sure if its left or right to put more tension on it ... here is the service manual link .... https://www.yousendit.com/download/QlVnNHB5VnMxUUJOeDhUQw
had a moto4 a loooong time ago and seems like there was a kill switch under the seat that could tell if someone was riding it. might just be a wrong memory but something to look into.
Considering the year model it could easily be a faulty connection from loose or contaminated wiring.,relays.,Alternator..Save time and check rectifier/regulator before wiring nightmare...Start and run engine sitting still at 2000 rpm.for 1 minute..,Shut it off.Carefully touch regulator ...If it is Extremely hot it is your problem. If not take it to mechanic..I would save time and troubleshooting nightmares because wiring will drive you crazy If you know nothing about it..Take to a Motorcycle Tech and let him repair it correctly ...Then he will explain the problem
Why do you think its running hot? Change the oil to a little heavier in the summer. pressure wash the cylinder and head, radiator, remove the thermostat.
replace the $5.00 idle jet with a new one (don't try to clean) & make sure the idle mixture screw is 3 turns out from seated (don't over tighten or will break off tip in Carb
I'd disconnect the starter wires and hook power directly to it with a charger or jumper cables. cant think of anything that could hurt it with reversed power but might not hurt to take it apart and clean everything up if its not working.
