Question about 1995 Honda VT 1100 C Shadow Spirit

1 Answer

I have a 1995 honda shadow 1100 and when the weather dips to cold it won't start. The first two or three cranks it sounds like it just won't catch, but you can hear it getting weaker. After 2 more tries there's no action at all but the light's and everything still work. Connect the battery to a trickle charger and everything works. This only happens when it gets cold and I've taken the battery in only to be told it seems fine. Any ideas?

Just a quick add-on, my battery still measures 12 volts off and 13.02 while running so I can't believe its the battery.

What we need to find out is if the battery cold cranking amps are just too small.
can you give me the battery model number and i can check it.

and one quick way to see is use your jumper cables from your car and jump start it and see if it starts then and how it turns over.
let me know how you do

ok with your volt meter check your voltage while cranking the engine over thsi is where youwill see the cold cranking power of your battery and from the voltage while running it looks like your charging system is working fine.

your starting voltage shoudnt drop below 10 volts

    good luck

let me know what that voltage is

    thanks

There is one more fuse near the battery, check the starter switch on the handle bar if you have 12V coming in to the switch.

My 1989 honda gl 1500 gold wing wont start in cold weather, it cranks over

Mine does the same thing. I put a new gel battery with high cold cranking amps from Advanced Auto Parts. Look to spend 100 bucks. Choke at full choke and it starts right up now. Gold Wings are cold natured. I own 2 and both are. But the battery took care of the cold starts.

How many quarts of engine oil holds 06 honda shadow 1100

Use only a JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. Automotive oil uses different additives and will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Shell Rotella T Synthetic (15w-40 about $22) and Shell Rotella standard oil ($12 a gallon) for diesel engines , both are JASO MA rated for motorcycles.10w-40 oil is good for cold climate. 20w-50 for hot climate/touring. Synthetic oil will make your cycle run cooler and shift easier. For the engine you will probably need four quarts of oil, a spin on filter, and a drain plug washer . Pour in three quarts and check the oil level by placing your motorcycle on the center standard looking at looking at the dip stick. Run the motor and top up as needed.
If changing the oil filter you will have to run the motor to get an accurate oil level reading.
Your final drive uses 80/90 hypoid gear oil. Synthetic hypoid oil will reduce friction and make your final drive run cooler.

How much oil does a 2004 honda shadow aero 750 hold? I bought my bike used and didn't get a owners manual.

it takes between 3-4 quarts but that model has a dip stick on the oil cap so use it to check as you fill, also make sure to only use motorcycle oil,car oils break down to fast and were not designed for motorcycle use, honda makes a very good oil, i would use a 10w-40 for cold weather and 20w-50 for hot weather, also i would suggest a synthetic oil, it will shift easier and make those movable parts last allot longer. ( preventative maintenance )

What weight of oil do you put in a 1986 Honda Shadow VT1100?

10w-40 cold climate, 20w-50 warm climate JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label it will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears . Synthetics will run cooler and make rush hour/hot weather shifting easier.

Rough running at high rpm on 1995 honda 1100C2 ACE

Check the condition of the air filter and replace it if dirty. Also, if the spark plugs have more than three or four thousand miles on them, try a new set.
