Question about Ducati 996 Motorcycles

1 Answer

Breaking Down I have a monster which will break down often. By break down, I mean that the bikes dies when I am riding it and feels like it is running out of gas. I hit the throttle and it starts to sputter and finally comes to a stop. The battery works and it tries to turn over but the engine won't start. I replaced the fuel line and am guessing that it might be the fuel pump. But if the fuel pump was broken would the bike start to begin with? I can ride for an hour, and then I get this issue, and the bike is full of gas. Once the bike sits for a while after it dies and if I raise the gas tank, it will then start up again. Any thoughts you might have would be great.

The problem may be a pinched fuel or vacuum hose, or a weak/collapsed vacuum hose. The problem may be varnished fuel/carburetors.

It may be an electrical problem: loose connector or defective conductor.

I cannot help you other than this without having the Duc and performing a few tests. The Monsters are fun to ride.

indicates an ignition control/ coil problem that is happening when an internal component is breaking down from heat
take it in to a bike shop that handles your make and have it tested and properly diagnosed

I have a briggs & stratton riding lawnmower it cuts for about 30min, then cuts off and wont start untilit cools off

Slacken off the filler cap when it starts to die, if it picks up again then it could be a blocked tank breather, it could also be an ignition coil breaking down with the heat

In four gear excleration is fine but, when I maintain a steady speed It feels like I am getting uneven fuel flow. What is the best action to take for this problem. thank you

If you are getting even acceleration through the gears I would say your problem is the spark plugs are breaking down. It will give a jerky feeling in the bike or sometimes may be explained as a surge then a lag and it might even sputter or sound odd and uneven exhaust noise.

If the bike is starting well and doing all the other "normal" stuff then I'd be point a finger at the spark plugs. Replace them with the correct brand and spark plug number also while you are at it replace the fuel filter although I doubt this is the problem.

Ride safe enjoy your motorcycle

New crf250r breaks down at high revs since new

Thats not normal. You could get a bike off the show room floor and completely skip the break in period and it would run wide open. If your bike wouldn't rev past quarter throttle there is something wrong. With a blackened silencer and a motor that dies at quarter throttle I'd say you've got a problem with your injection system flooding your motor with fuel. I run 3 warm up and cool down rotations and go ride like normal. After 4 tanks of fuel your bike is more than broken in. If you aren't familiar with the injection system take it to the dealer and get someone to look at it. If you bought it new it should be covered as a manufacture defect.

My 17hp ohv briggs & straten runs fine until it warms up. then it pulses and dies. what could be causing this?

If I were a betting man I would say that the coil is breaking down with heat and causing irratic spark when it is warm, if for some strange reason this motor has a condensor and points then I would say the condensor is breaking down when it heats up but I do not believe your engine has points so again I would say replace your coil and the engine should stay running after it warms up. Hope This Helps Don

Start

the bike even kicks. The only way I can get it to start is by push starting it. Once I ride it for about 45 minutes it will start if I turn it off. Sometimes during the week if I ride it everyday the problem will go away. The problem comes back if I don't ride it for a couple of days. Sometimes it'll start in the morning going to work but not in the afternoon coming back. I have taken it to the shop twice but both times the problem went away and the shop couldn't find anything wrong. If anyone has any insight I would appreciate the advice. When you say you hear the starter going -- does that mean you can feel the starter engage and move the pistons up and down? Also, when you say that the bike even kicks when you let our the clutch...what does that mean? It almost sounds like a starter solenoid issue, but it's hard to say until I understand what is actually happening or not happening...,,,
