The plastic side panels come off with a #3 phillips screwdriver, then the two seat hold down bolts are revealed. the front of the seat is not bolted it just slide out. when you put it back on, put some white lithium grease on the front seat attachment fork piece to eliminate rubbing/squeaking noises

Even better, replace the cheesy side-panel bolts with KLX 110 side-panel bolts. They have hex-heads (8mm) and even have a drop of locktite on them!

My 2005 KLR 650 is overheating but I'm not sure of the cause. The metal box under the seat is incredibly hot but I don't know its purpose so I was hoping you can give me some ideas

hiya

This is normal, my 87' would do the same thing. There are two mod's all KLR owners should do...
1. Install an overide switch for the fan, mine is a three way auto.off.on
2. Cut off switch for the lights.(Great for crawling around off road)
The overide switch for the fan helps keep the temp down below the red. Now, I have never sat in a traffic jam on a 100 day, but it has helped with everything else thusfar

hope this helps

You could try this site, I do not know how legal it is though. All the Kawasaki Forums say, "spend the bickies and get a Clymers". But ultimately the choice is yours. Good Luck
