Fuel tank reserve capacity

Hi Kumud:
On my KLR 650 the reserve is 0.9 US gallons.
There's really not much point in worrying about "non usable" amount.
What I would recommend, especially if you're going to do any remote riding, is to strap a spare gallon (or 2) to your bike, then go for a ride. When you run out of gas, reset the trip meter to zero, turn on your reserve, and ride until you run out of gas again.
You will now know how far you can go on your reserve. That's the first important part.
Now put you spare gas into the tank and ride off to find a fuel station. Fill the tank, set the trip meter to zero, make sure the fuel selector is set to "ON", and go for a ride until you run out of gas again.
You will now know how far you can go on a full tank before you have to rely on the reserve.
If you use this system it won't matter what machine you have, and depending on your riding technique, the distances will vary.
Gotta love riding!

When to fill gas tank on 2011 Harley Davidson 883 sportster

Hi Anonymous, fill up the tank and set your trip meter to zero. Keep an eye on your fuel level by looking in the gas tank with a flash light. When it looks like you only have a little gas left make a notation of the milage and thats how far you can go on a tank of gas. Good luck

Just wondering if you know how many kilometers you

Every rider and ride is different. It depends on the rider and the type of riding you are doing. High speed riding reduces your range. If it needs tuned up you get fewer kms per tank. If you are hammering it you will get fewer miles, etc.

I purchased a new gas tank for my '82 yamaha vision 550. the replacement tank is from an '83 and there seems to be 3 inlets on the '83 tank(fuel or vaccum) and 2 on the '82 tank i'm replacing. Just...

The 83 has a fuel return line intended to prevent vapor lock , by circulating cooler gas through he fuel pump. You can cap off the fuel return hose and it will cause no problems. The carbs on the 82 differ quite a bit from the 83 and the petcocks are not interchangeable, with out a lot of work.

Cbr 600 grtting ready for winter

top off the fuel tank to reduce the amount of air in there, less open space means less room for condensation to form and cause rust in the tank. next drain the float bowls if you dont really like pulling the carbs in the spring. also put the battery on a trickle charger to keep it from going bad.
