Gear problems

My brand new DL 1000 Suzuki V Strom hiccups around 2700rpm in 2nd gear and surges between 3000 and 4000rpm in 3rd. Any comments, cures?

The issue is common with VStrom's fresh from Dealers with no care for properly mapping the Fuel system. If it's new, take it back to them to have it mapped properly. Otherwise, you could drop another $300 and have a Pwer Commander installed then have that mapped properly on your own.

Good Luck!

Take it to the dealer to have a quick look at it, it could just be either a bit of running in stickyness or they forgot to check something was tightened up properly before you got your hands on it. Failing that, try an oil additive such as Slick50 in the oil tank, a fuel additive such as Redex in the fuel tank and if the engine's water / liquid cooled (spot the bike expert) stick something like Redline Waterwetter in the coolant tank... and it might feel a bit better (and last longer).

DL1000 flat spot, miss and occasional backfire at 2700rpm.Whats the fix?

In view of late model, still under warranty, take back to dealer. If out of warranty I suggest the following checks.

Remove / check spark plugs they should all be the same colour, light grey / clean looking.

Does it do same on bike stand at same revs. If so may be an air leak. check all clamps on induction side. Squirt CRC brake cleaner / engine start around intake area where manifold is while its missing and if it disappears then air leak indicated.
If you have the means to check spark at this rev then you may find the spark is breaking down.

Gears jambing from 3rd to 2nd

If it only occurs transitioning from third to second it is a defective schncronizer and should be serviced, it will get worse.

My suzuki dl 1000 k5 hiccups at 2200--4300 rpm

have seen this many times on different bikes. the manufacturers have to get their bikes to pass emission (pollution) tests, and noise tests. these tests are usually done at the same rpm, therefore the manufacturers program the ecu to make the bike run weak on fuel at that rpm. causes what we call a 'flat spot'

can think of no other reason or it would do it throughout the rev range. don't forget that after a distance on neutral throttle, the fuelling will be very weak as the bike doesn't need much then anyway. usual answer is to get ecu re programmed, or fit dynojet power commander, a plug in electrical box, will sort out all the rubbish and make it run properly. do a google search for dynojet and read their stuff.

Although the battery is brand new my v-strom dl 1000 wont start unless I jump-starting it conected to my car, reagrdless how long I do ride it for, as soon as I stop it and turn the key off it wont start...

It seems that your bike's battery is not getting charged while running, but if your Headlights are working then the Dynamo is OK but the rectifier/battery charging has conked out. It might be just a blown fuse or it could be in the rectifier coil/circuit. It would be best if you could get it checked from their authorized service center and get the part replaced since you said that the bike is brand new & even the distributor from whom you bought it should take responsibility for a faulty piece of equipment.................sodeep

I don't work on many Suzuki's so I don't need a service manual. But I believe you will find several at the site below. The site has free PDF downloads. I hope this helps!
