03 YZ not starting

Ok so the other day it was cutting out in the higher gears. It would cut out for a second then kick back in. Then I went riding today and it was doing it, so i let my friend ride it, we stopped and talked about it. When i went to start it up it just wouldnt. SO i brought it home and put a new plug in it and it wont start up. Dosent even sound like it wants to. What could be the problem ?

You need three things.... ignition, compresion, carburretion.

check sparks first, take plug out, put plug back in plug cap and rest on head, must make a circuit, metal to metal kick over, need to see big fat blue spark, not wishy washy little yellow spark, and definitely wrong if no spark. don't do this too close to plug hole or may catch a jet of gas like a flame thrower !!!! reckon it's electrical.

To me this sounds like either bad gas or no gas but on my dirt bike sometimes it just doesnt want to start and i dip the plug in gas after cleaning it and if that doesnt work heat it up and usually that works but not all the time and sometimes you just have to kick and kick till it goes

I don't think this is a float issue. One way to check is to turn the gas off, take the bowl off the carb, hold the float up, and turn the gas back in. If fuel flows, the float needle is toast. It sounds suspiciosly like a worn topend, but it could also be a clogged jet ot fuel filter, or a faulty CDI.

How does the compression feel now that you have it cranking over again. Without the decompression lever pulled in it should be next to impossible to kick it over. also, is there any noise coming from the engine (knocking, etc.) when you got it to start again.

My 03 r1 cut off on me while I was rideing and wouldn't start back, I charged tha battery and started back ridein and it cut off again. Got a new battery and it went down. Help me please.

Hi, Tom and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
11. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
12. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
13. Fuel tank empty.
14. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
15. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
16. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
17. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

2003 SUZUKI GSXR 600 SHIFTING QUESTION

just input , not resolving anything. but i used to have a similar issue with mine, but i had a gs 750t . it has around 20,000 on the clock. sometimes it didnt want to shift into 1st from a dead stop, i had to let out on clutch, then pull clutch again , then it went right in. the gears are so fine cut in the bikes that once they get worn, even the shift fork, it gets a little harder to get into those gears without a little coaxing. by the sounds of it (without knowing the mileage) i dont think id worry too much. especially if its shifting up and down through gears without grinding of any sort. if the clutch is ok on it (being an 03) i assume its still touchy , ull be ok

Engine seized?

First thing to do is make sure it's the kick starter that has seized and not the engine. Take the cover off the end of the crankcase and try to turn the crankshaft. Apparently these engines were notorious for doing bottom ends. Start pulling it down and see what you find..
