Question about 2002 Yamaha XJ 600 Diversion S-N

Bad Battery Having trouble determining why my bike won't start. Started acting finicky since the spring...little buzz outside the battery area when it started. Had to charge the battery more than once to get it started a couple of times. Turn the key...nothing. But when I hook up the battery to the charger, it only takes about an hour to say it's fully charged. What gives? I tried leaving it connected to the charger longer, but it didn't help. Somebody told me carbon buildup in the engine from driving with too much choke can do this, but the buzzing makes me think it's something electrical. The connections are clean and secure. I read a little about it. What is a solenoid, and is it hard to replace? I'm game to work on this. Little bit ashamed I didn't take care of the bike properly -seems like poor maintenance. Any advice?

The buzzing outside the battery area is the worrying problem. I would suspect an exposed wire. Disconeect your battery remove it and inspect all wiring in that area carefully.Most auto part places will test a battery either free or very cheaply. If battery tests fine then back to inspecting wires. Faulty or poor maintenance will not cause a buzzing sound unless you have water inside a module. Can't think of any near battery. If you have any more symptoms please list them. This engine and over all general design goes back over 20 years. Good Luck and I'm interested in what real problem ends up being. To clean out carbon get a can of HEET and go for a blast down the highwy using lower gears than you usually use and make sure choke is off. I don't mean redline it all the way. Just work the engine and that will clear carbon out.
