Question about 2006 Yamaha Road Star

1 Answer

Clutch issues I have one of the early 04 road star , and it has of course seen pretty much every problem that I have read about on the forum. Luckily my dealer fixed all of them under warranty. Recently I have been noticing that my clutch is feeling a bit off. I would expect it to get spongy if there was some gas buildup in the line that needed bleeding. Instead the first part of the pull feels free, then the clutch engages with almost no slip, then the rest of the pull feels normal but doesn't do anything. Unfortunatly my dealership closed down. The only reason this bugs me is that it takes a lot of finesse now to shift smoothly. Is this what you guys feel when you need to bleed the system? I hope it is not the clutch itself that is the problem, I have only about 1500 miles on it.

Yes, just bleed it at the clutch lever. 11mm wrench in the tool kit, put a little airline on the fitting, crack it open and give the lever one pump, good as new. You can do it a number of times without having to add more fluid. When I ride mine hard and the bike really gets warm, mine needs to be bled about every 100 miles or so.
