Question about 1995 Yamaha FZR 1000

2 Answers

Mess up My bike is running a little rough at low RPMs and sometimes will backfire/pop into the air filter. It generally only happens at low RPMs when taking off from a stop but it does not happen all the time. It will occassionally pop a little at higher speeds if I have to roll off the throttle quick. I also feel a slight stutter at low RPMs (in any gear). I think the chain needs a slight bit of adjusting so that may be the cause of the stutter, but any ideas on the backfiring? My knee rest on the side of the air filter cover and I can feel when it happens

Your bike is most likely running a little lean on the idle/slow-speed circuit. The jets might need a cleaning, or you've got a slight air leak somewhere. Other possibilities ... - Idle mix screw out of adjustment (Probably not as it's sealed and 'supposed to be' tamper free) - Carbs slightly out of synch

From the look of the photo she isnt standard.Has the air box been tampered with and is the exhaust just a different can on standard header pipes or a full aftermarket system. If either the airbox or exhaust are not standard then its possible she may need slightly larger main jet.

Poping and rough idle on xjr1200

Hi, Larry popping or backfiring on deceleration is usually caused by a lean fuel condition or an air leak in the exhaust system and is generally located where black carbon soot is seen as a flashing build up from any joint connection. This condition can easily be remedied by removing and cleaning both joint pieces and reassembling with high temp silicone and torquing the exhaust clamp to the proper spec. Coughing is usually caused by an air leak in the intake system and will generally have the same telltale signs, a wet or damp buildup of oil/gas seepage at the intake manifold to cylinder head or carburetor to intake manifold connection and in rare instances a worn throttle plate shaft and or seals. Spitting is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is adjusted too lean. 4 wheeler backfire on start

incorrect air fuel mixture or a leak check for damage to the intake boot or airbox

i need to know more about how its running at low mid and high rpm to help you troubleshoot and you need to check for leaks especiely the intake boot if the intake boot is leaking that will need to be fixed before running the bike asumeing that is ok or fixed run the bike listen to it at idle standing is it surgeing with a good fast acceleration off the line with you siting on the quad ? or just realy rough ticking over with little guts off the line ?

midrange rideing how does it feel is there a bwarrr noise as u accelorate hard or does the engine roar up fast

is it reaching a good top end with good pulling power or poor pulling power

are the backfires constant or mainly whyle slowing down from high revs

if all are effected but there are no leaks then it may be float / fuel level that needs ajustment fuel level in ur float bowel effects all stages of rpm low mid and high

A rich problem gets worse as the engine heats up.

A lean problem gets better as the engine heats up.

hope this helps if u dont fix it your self first try and do them little rpm backfire tests for me itl tell me a lot

Running rough-1987 Ford Ranger 2.3 L 4 cyl. Had been running very smoothly until 2 weeks ago when it began backfiring and running rough, especially at low speeds, without my having made any adjustmen

If your car has a mas air flow sensor (usualy located right aroung air filter or in air passage after the air filter) check and clean the sensor. This looks like a small spring on the end of 2 wires. BE CAREFUL not to damage the sensor. I have seen where the sensor gets dirty over time and this can cause a rough idle.

I have a 1995 YZF 600. Its running a little rough but idles at about 2,500 rpms once the engine is warm, yet the engine still stalls out when the choke is not on. I have cleaned the carbs, and there in...

Hi, Cnester10 and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Float needle and seat sticking.
5. Float level too low.
6. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
7. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
8. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
9. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
10. Slow fuel jet clogged.
11. Faulty fuel pump.

Jet kit, vance n hines,k@n, ran well for 500 mi now runs rough at low rpm and backfires some when downshifting.i put new plugs and fuel filter on it.bike has 5000 mi on it

Jets could be the wrong size, could be the gas, or could still be the plugs. The backfiring is from too much fuel getting into the exhaust and igniting. Running rough at low rpm's is usually a sign of too much fuel as well. I would try adjusting the idle control to see if it doesn't help regulate the fuel to the jets.

Engine dies after quad is warmed up (10-15 minutes)

Just a hunch, had this happen to a bike of mine years ago, could be the piston rings are gettting ready to go(wore down). What happens is when the quad is cold the rings expand tight into the cylinder walls allowing it to get full compression and run ok. When it heats up they shrink allowing the slightest amount of give which in turn will cause you problems similar to what your describing.

Bike stalls in high gears when cruising around 45-50MPH

Could be your spark plugs, or maybe your side stand as some bikes if not all of them now have a switch on the side stand which prevents the rider from starting the bike if the stand is extended. So if the spring which retracts the stand is slightly lose, it pulls on the switch and cuts off power. Im not an expert but just check these.

Could also be that your carbs are dirty. So just give them a bit of a service and check for any blockages in there.
