Question about 2003 Yamaha FJR 1300 A

1 Answer

Timing issue I recently bought a 1985 FJR 1300 A yamaha that turned out to have some problems, (water in the oil) We went in and fixed that problem, also ended up changing all the gaskets (head gasket,o-rings, etc.) the problem ended up to be in the water pump, but during the reassembly could not get the timing right. My question is....Do the timing marks face each other, face away from each other, or face the same direction when at TDC? I have gotten conflicting answers on this, does anyone know the CORRECT way to time this bike? Very much appreciated

Most engines are set-up so that the timing marks face each other, but not all of them. I don't know how yours is set-up, but I bet the service manual does. You should have one for any bike you own, just on general principles. And especially for times like this.... Wink

Hi, Barbra for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Oil leaking from top of engine yamaha fjr 1300 2003

Try tightening all the bolts near the gasket. Start tightening in X fashion. / and \. ie opposite in diagonal way. Repeat till they are tight. Do it equally.

Still leak is noticed, you may have to replace the gasket with the right material.
