Question about 2008 Yamaha Crux

1 Answer

Oil leak i just picked up a yamaha crux It idled fine and ran ok(some hesitation) earlier but when i rode it about 2 miles in the afternoon it just stalled out at a stop(it idled below 1k rpm) I managed to start it up again and rode it to a friend's house. it stalled out there when i came to a stop. i also noticed oil spilling out from under the air box in the same general area as the shifter. i'm not sure if its coming from the airbox/carb or coming from the engine right underneath it. but there was alot of oil coming out. after about 20-30 seconds it stopped. This is the first time i've ridden a 4 cylinder bike. i have no idea what its supposed to sound like and what its supposed to feel like. when i rode it there was some hesitation and it didn't feel like alot of power. the previous owner said It needed a new air filter too which explains the hesitation. I'm not sure where the oil is coming from.

Your oil leak sounds like it might be coming from the crankcase breather. If so, it means that something in the engine is allowing gasses past into the crankcase.....

Obviously a piston ring gone bad, poor fuel, oil not changed. Try a higher octane or 2 tablespoons of acetone in fuel. Mix well

Sounds like water / oil emulsification. Is your bike water cooled or air cooled? If it's water cooled then you may have a gasket leak. If it's air cooled then you may not be riding the bike enough to get a good temp up inside the engine which would drive off the condensation inside the crank case / sump thereby leading to the emulsification. You say you rode an easy mile - certainly that's not enough to get the temp up enough to drive off the water. Was the bike running ok? Was it accelerating and braking ok? If so then try a cautious longer run and keep an eye on your levels. If in doubt consult a bike shop.

Oil leak from exhaust

Hi Kevin, many riders are over filling their oil system because they do not know how to properly read their oil site glass. The following procedure works on nearly all 4 stroke engines but to be on the safe side you should always refer to your owners manual. Use your center stand if you have one.
1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature or let idle for 5 minutes.
2. Turn off your engine and let it sit for 2 minutes, this will allow the oil from the top end to drain to the bottom.
3. Hold your bike straight up or on the center stand and wait 2 minutes for the oil in the bottom of the engine to be level in the sight glass.
4. Your oil level should be between the top full mark and the bottom add mark.
5. Never over fill your oil system it will cause problems:
a. oil leaking out of exhaust pipes.
b. oil leaking out of breather pipe/hose.
c. oil carryover into the air cleaner.
6. Your oil site glass must never be completely full drain as necessary.
7. Your oil site glass must never be completely empty add as necessary.

REVS HIGH WHEN FIRST CRANK IT, GETS HIGHER WHEN PUSH CHOKE DOWN. RUNS OK AT HALF CHOKE.... TRYING TO SELL IT, RAN FINE HAS JUST BEEN SITTING UP FOR A YEAR. PLEASE HELP!?

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Throttle cables improperly adjusted or pinched.
2. Idle adjusting screw needs to be backed off.
4. Air fuel mixture adjusted too lean start with 2 full turns.
5. Intake system air leak.
6. Fast idle choke ramp is not releasing.
7. Broken throttle return spring.
8. Damaged diaphragm or slide.
9. Faulty MAP, TPS, ATS, O2, sensors or wiring/connector
