Minimum 125 psi (time for a top end then) ... proper pressure after 5 kicks should be in the 175-190 psi range on fresh top end for that bike.make sure to either push the kill button or ground the plug to the engine while kicking it over, or you could damage your CDI unit.

Valves could be sticking closed or open causing (good or bad compression) that or de-com-lever if faulty somehow.. And you need to do a compression test

I have a 2002 HD 1200 Custom Sportster and I have lost compression in both cyclinders at the same time. Rode the bike and it ran fine. 2 weeks later I got on the bike and started it up and one cyclind

Changing spark plugs will not affect compression unless you put in the wrong reach plug and it hit and damaged a piston. Sounds more like stuck valves, bent pushrods, broken rockers, or cam drive problems.

You next need to do a leak down test which will answer your question about the low compression.

My tomos revival ran fine then started losing power and droped in speed whay do I look for, plug is fine carb clean, air cleaner clean bike has 1200 senior miles

Hello
Well i always do the easier method to find out the problem.
hers a few things to do to determine whats wrong.
1st pull spark plug and do compression test, a blown head gasket will lose compression.
if the gasket is blown then the compression test will read a low psi and drop suddenly
2nd worn piston rings will lose compression, the compression test will read a very low psi below 100 psi and may leak right down depending on how worn the rings are.

that would make you lose power.
have it tested to see which it is.

either way, a lose of power in the motor is caused by lose of compression in the motor.
you can do the test your self, you can buy a compression tester pretty cheap, just make sure you don't cross thread the connectors.
have a good weekend

My wife let my 99 fxr2 run for half hour...it was 40 degrees and windy.. it ran ok..im concerned about letting it run so long...im not home to check it out...should i worry ?

Why worry? What is done is done. I'd ride the bike and just see how it does. If the weather was like you said it was and she let it run for a half hour, it's probably alright. It is an air cooled engine and 40° weather is pretty cool. Just go home and ride it like you stole it and if it runs alright, just keep on riding and grinning.

If not, come back here and tell me what it's doing that you don't like. We'll see what we can do. The test is to run a compression test on it. It the compression is good, the engine is good.

Can't find compression specs for 1980 Yamaha 650G

The compression should be around 150psi, but at 120psi it should pop, try to readjust the valve clearance.
Hope this helps!

Kick start has no compression but runs fine once i get it going

Does it feel like yhe kick is even engaging and turning the crankshaft? Are you full stroking/kicking it over or short stroking it? when cold, are you using the choke. I suggest taking a compression test when it feels as if it hs no compression It could be undersized piston, rings, or a simple. good luck

Wont start

Hi,

Oil from the breather is an indicator of compression bypassing the rings. This causes sump compression.
Cause of the problem is worn rings.
You need to conduct a compression test, if the compression is low then rings are probably the cause of the bike not starting.

Cheers
