i have a legend , and it was fine when parked up end of november. but upon starting it up recently it has a simaler fault. and that is until engine hot it appears to missfire, i hope its a simple as a coil, and not a head gasket as my fears are telling me.

i have a similar problem, but cant believe its coil as it changes when hot, coil works or dont work?

That's what a failing coil acts like. Eventually it will quit all together and it will be easy to figure out which one is at fault. When intermittent figuring out which one can be a bit of a challenge.

My bike runs, idles cuts at 40% if opened any further dies and does not recover unless closed, what is the problem?

Common idleing is corrected by points on many blades. Clean the points and reset distributor and timing. Check loose covers for water seapage and seal when recommended by the mnfctr.

05 suzuki m50 wont stay on

Sounds like a pilot screw is missing or your float level is too high possibly the low speed jet fell out? what else was done besides the fuel pump? whatever it is the bottom line is now its getting to much fuel.

My 2003 suzuki vl 800 misses real bad and it wont stay started without the choke being out. Could it be a spark plug or what

hi normaly this indicates a fuel problem, as the machine wont run properly without the choke you poss have a blocked jet in the carb or something, when you put the choke on the fuel is then pulled up, as the choke flap has closed of the air flow the natural thing is the vachume will pull up exsess fuel, this is fine until your engine becomes hot then the engine will start to run rough as a result of the overfueling, with respect of the spark plug if the engine runs the chances are the plug is fine, however overfueling will eventualy contaminate the plugs causing poor starting, with extreme care feel the exhaust pire from each cylinder where it comes out of the cylinder head, if it is hot then the spark plug is working just to reiterate you must ware a heat proof glove or wait till the engine has cooled down a bit before placing your hand near to the exhaust to avoid severe burns.

My sporti runs hot i can drive about 5 miles i lose power ,back fires and wont run needs to cool off then starts up for another 5 miles

Sounds like you've got a fuel problem. A lean mixture will make the engine run hot. Try loosening the fuel cap. Don't take it completely off, just loosen it so that air can get into the tank and ride it. If that cures the problem, it's the tank vent in the cap. If that doesn't effect it. you'll have to check the fuel flow all the way to the carb from the tank.

Good Luck

Hi, I've got a bmw r100 rt 1981. At high speed 105 mph, after about 1/4 of a mile the engine cuts out and when speed drops to about 80 mph it starts to pick up again. The bike starts and runs fine although...

sounds like you need to look at the carbs there not getting a good fule flow to them,,,,check this first,,you need to adjust both carbs to open the same amount and this can only be done on the throtle cable's at the carb,,,if your bike feels a bit lower on power than your palls,,do a compreshion test on both bikes,,if his has more compreshion than yours thats why he can wip you on hills!

2003 ltz 400 starts and runs fine until it gets hot. then it chokes and spits and finally willnot start. cool down runs fine and then same cycle all over agian once it gets hot. \r\n\r\ncleaned gas tank,...

I would recommended Removing Head of engine and inspecting barrel and piston rings as when Engine gets hot The rings expand slightly if there cracked and they expand Piston will not move properly.

Sounds like a main bearing. The bad news is the only ways I know of to chack it are, 1)tear the motor down and check for play, or 2)run it till it goes and risk ruining the motor. Sorry, I know it sucks. I just rebuilt a Kawasucki with the same problem. At least the Harley is an easier rebuild.

2005 250 f 65 kicks to start

Several things can cause the problem. First, spring for a new spark plug. The stock plug is NGK CR8E. Now the plug is eliminated as a problem. Next, pull the slide out of the throat of the carb. Now remove the jet needle. Put the needle clip on the 4th notch, (this is the stock setting). Use only premium gas. Next, follow the starting instructions below.

There is a proper way to start the engine. Four controls are on your bike to assist in starting.
  • The choke, used when the engine is cold. Pull the red knob for choke.
  • The " Hot Start " Lever, used when the engine is hot. Pull the lever to lean the fuel mix when the engine has been running.
  • The de-compression lever, always used.
  • The throttle, used to prime the cylinder.
Don't kick, instead, push the kick lever downward. You will feel the back pressure as the piston is going upward on the compression stroke to the point the pressure is great enough that the kick lever "locks up". You are very close to TDC. NOW, pull in the de-compression lever. Push the kick lever a little bit more to get the piston past TDC. Give the throttle a 1/4 turn then let it snap closed. A diaphragm in the carb gives a shot of gas when this is done. DO NOT do this multiple times because you will flood the engine. Leave the throttle closed when kicking. Release the de-compression lever and give a strong kick through the full sweep of the kick start lever. Quickly get your foot off the kick lever at the end of the kick to avoid any chance of "kickback" from a backfire. It can be very painful, and can even break a leg. I am serious about that. Repeat the process (but without the throttle priming), until the bike starts. A good battery and clean air filter will also aid in starting.

This will likely tame the beast for you. Please rate this answer. Thanks!

Loud clack on shutdown

Unfortunately it is probably the Sprag Clutch. My '95 did that for a while. Then it got worse and started making the noise during starting.
