Question about 1997 Triumph Trident 900

New owner q

I have recently purchased a 1996 trident. I would appreciate any feedback on this bike. My first question would be why the bike steam forms the exhaust after a good rain. It seams to collect moisture in the pipes. Thanks

started bike on stand turned throttle and revved engine let the throttle go and there is a popping noise from exhausts like pipes are letting air in but this is not the case.

You will find it is generally a well engineered thing, most of the weak points are electrical. There are many threads here concerning ignition pick up coil failure and HT coil failure. Pick up coil problems usually involve the bike cutting out when its warm and re-starting when its cold. HT coil problems bring about rough running. There is a bolt in the alternator drive which is prone to failure, it will manifest itself as a rattle from the top left of the engine when it is idling. Triumph have a kit of re-designed parts to fix it. I get thoroughly bored with the brake calipers, they are forever seizing / binding. Either the sliding body binding on its pins or a piston binding on the dust seal. I have that problem right now and it needs fixing (again). It is one thing that puts me off uprating the calipers, twice as many pistons to seize as there are now. (dont have this problem with the Lockheed or Brembo calipers on other bikes). This is on a bike that is used every day. You may find that on a bike of that age that the rubber petrol pipes and vacuum hoses will have hardened and may leak or split when you disconnect them, that may cause bad running or cause the petrol tap not to open due to poor vacuum. I have had trouble with wear in the carbs, but parts were replaced and it is now OK. Mikuni carb. bikes are thirsty, expect low 30s mpg. I have also been through several sets of wheel bearings over the years, but they are easy enough to replace. I have not modified my bike, it is still largely as it left the factory (apart from some grime and rust).

Want to lower my trident.

This is a tall order. Everything about is fine tuned to be the bike youj see. If you change anything, you are really changing everything. If it doesnt fit you, I suggest you look for a bike that is a better fit. Of course, the triumps you have is quite a bike ... itis tall. You might want to consider a Honda Aero or a similar HD, Yamana or Suzuki. I like my Aero.

Overheating yz250f

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Low coolant level.
2. Restricted radiator air flow.
3. Faulty thermostat.
4. Coolant pump or fans inoperative.
5. Vent hose crimped.
6. Air in the coolant and needs bleeding.

Sounds like timing chain, higher pitch gear noise.

common on high mileage bikes, chain tend to stretch over years and get very sloppy. you might also want to check the gear making sure is not worn, worn gear will chew your new chain up quickly. check your timing belt also, it good idea to also replace.

New owner with no manual

No it does not. Was your sidestand down at the time? That is a safety feature to keep you from riding off without retracting it.

Trident 900 - No Acceleration

The only times my 'dent had no acceleration, it wasn't firing on all 3. Easy check: start the bike, let it idle for a couple minutes, spray water from a spray bottle on each header. Chances are, there'll be a cold header from a cylinder not firing due to a bad coil.

Moto 6

5I have recently purchased an Aprilia Moto 6.5. It is a rare bike here in New Zealand is it possible to get a manual for this bike anywhere? The bike had been in storage for a couple of years and the odometer is only 7000 miles (11,000 km). It backfires when you throttle off. I've adjusted the mixture to run richer, but it has started doing it again, is there anything special that i should be doing with the carburetor (Mikuni BST-40)?,There is a manual in the downloads section.
