Question about 1998 Triumph Trident 750

1 Answer

Fuel problems I've just started having fuel problems on my 96 Trident 750. It's used daily and just started cutting out, but I can carry on running as long as i don't rev too hard or exceed 60mph. I took the tank off last night and fuel pissed out when I disconnected the hoses so I knew something was wrong. I took off the vacuum tap and found the valve was in the vacuum position. When I took it apart I found the casting was blocked so it was retaining the vacuum. I cleaned it out finding a small thin piece of rubber was blocking the hole and assumed I'd fixed it. This morning riding to work the symptoms are exactly the same. I opened the cap when I arrived at work wondering if there was a vacuum in the tank but there didn't appear to be. Any ideas?

There are two fuel pipes from the petrol tap to junctions between the carbs. Inside those plastic junction pieces, where the fuel pipe attaches are small conical mesh filters, 'witches hats' as described by the mechanic at my local dealers, it is likely that they are clogged up. Unfortunately you will need to take the carbs off the engine to get to them. Probably worth getting some new petrol pipes as well, mine had perished and become brittle after a few years and split when I pulled them apart.

1996 Triumph Trident 900. acts like its out of gas,

Hi, Alan always check fuel flow first to isolate the problem area otherwise the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel cap or fuel tank not venting properly.
3. Fuel filter clogged with rust or dirt.
4. Fuel valve/petcock not in the on or reserve position.
5. Vacuum line to fuel valve cracked, broken, pinched, or missing
6. Fuel valve/petcock clogged or diaphragm cracked, cut or torn
7. Fuel line from the fuel valve to the carburetor or fuel pump clogged, cracked, pinched, bent, broken, or missing.
8. Fuel pump not working
9. Fuel line touching cylinder or head causing fuel to boil and vapor lock, repair by rerouting and wrapping line with convoluted tubing.
10. Carburetor inlet clogged.
11. Carburetor float or needle and seat stuck.
12. Carburetor not venting properly overflow line or bowl fitting clogged, pinched, or bent.

Suzuki GSX 750 X losing power when you twist throttle then lurching forward like you've twisted it with clutch in then just dumped it, fuel economy dropped significantly and now it has started cutting...

I would run a compression check on all four cylinders...with the throttle wide open, it should pump at least 120psi and not differ more than 15 psi. ,,Did you balance the carburetors with a vacuum or mercury gauge? If the compression checks good, I would still suspect the carburetors, have a qualified professional clean and set them.

My 1994 zxr750 has got a problem with fuel tap when in the run position after a few miles it feels like it is runing out of fuel but put it to reserve and it runs fine but the fuel tank is full? help

94 zx7s have separate hoses that sit at the very back end of the tank. They take a nice twisty course to get to the tank. Could be that the main line is kinked and the reserve is not.

Or you may need to rebuild the petcock. I've got 3 ZX7s, 93, 94, and a 01. None of them had petcock issues but I've had fuel line routing issues before. So I'd check the lines first before servicing the petcock.

Triumph trident 750 '98' starting problem

Classic storage problem is moisture entering, coalescing, condensing in petrol and in electrical circuits what you' v done is right but try WD40 on low & high tension side of ignition and a dose of easy start, once running give a good run and store with cling film over open ports with a acumen type charger left on.
