Question about 2008 Triumph Rocket III

1 Answer

Gearbox problems A friend of mine had some gearbox problems on his 2004 Rocket 3. Rearwheel suddenly blocked in second gear. He then had the gearbox repaired for around 4000- Euros ( 6000 US Dollars). The Triumph Shop have never heard about this problem before. I have just bought a 2004 Rocket with 8000 km on the clock ( 5000 Miles) . Do I have to worry?

I also had my bike lock-up in second gear. The bike had already been repaired three times under warranty for transmission issues. All repairs were covered at no monetary cost to me, but the months of riding I missed and the hassle of excessive trips to an inexperienced Triumph Authorized mechanic was more than I could take. I filed a Lemon Law Claim.

I have a 2004 Rocket with 38,000+ miles and have never had any mechanical issues. There are others who have though. I don't think it's so common that everyone should be worried, but it is something to be aware of. Triumph didn't cover any of the cost? I know it's a 4 year old bike, but Triumph has been covering atleast the parts cost for similar repairs and they have an upgrade kit that addresses tranmission issues, a replacement lower timing chain gear, timing chain adjuster and other issues.

If your car has automatic gears , and your problem as if it is going uphill then you obviously have a faulty automatic transmission box , this can be fixed by a competent mechanic but would be better to take it to an auto-mechanic, for a replacement gearbox or it may just be a missaligned gear selector in the gearbox, it will be expensive whatever the problem is ........unless the auto-mechanic is your best buddy..............................Sorry

If the gears are not changing, the computer may stop the engine from overreving. If the gears are changing, then the gearbox is not the cause.

2008 Triumph Rocket III popping out of gear

Hi, David and the usual suspects are:
1. Shifter pawl improperly adjusted.
2. Shifter drum improperly adjusted or damaged.
3. Shifter engaging parts/dogs badly worn or rounded.
4. Shifter forks bent.
5. Damaged gears.

A clunck noise changing gear

Hi
This does sound like a gearbox problem, either where the cogs lock together (the dogs go into recesses) or the shift forks themselves
The dogs do wear after high mileage which can make them slip out of gear
Ive never heard of a gearbox smoothing out over such low mileage, but I suppose it is just possible
You could get the gearbox 'blueprinted' (i.e. to manufacturers exact specifications) but this will cost a bomb !
Your best bet is to complain again & at least get a ride on another rocket3, or get it sorted under warranty

Ride safe

It sounds like who ever rebuilt it forgot to line up the gears in the gear box. You might see if they can redo it for ya, tell'em to take there time and slow down, an you should be alright.

Just the same

I am not familiar with the Audi 2004 TT, but offer the following suggestion:-
If the vehicle has a gearbox separate from the engine, try using a lighter grade of gearbox oil -from my experience with Alfa's, Valvoline Transgear 75W/85 works well in slow synchro gearboxes.

(PS... Learn to double shuffle when changing back to second - then your syncro will last forever).

had exactly the same problem with mine, its in my mates garage as we speak. he had to take the engine out open the gear box and check the bearings. All the bearings were worn !!!! had to buy a wole bearing kit, £170 . plus labour, lot cheaper than getting it reconditioned by specialists!!! they wanted £1000 for doing exactly what my mate has done for me. Hope this helps you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
