Engine Cooling I have a leather tool bag attached to the frame behind the front wheel of my Ridley. It is directly in front of the engine. A wrench turner friend of mine whose trouble shooting brain never seems to stop

Wondered if the tool bag might interfere with the natural cooling of the engine. I didn't know and thought I would ask. I've got it in such a spot that the leather doesn't come in contact with the exhaust pipe so I got that item covered.I can't imagine that that would effect the cooling.,,

Rack and Pinion steering gear RnR 1995 - 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo and Impala (FWD)

To start: Make sure the steering shaft and or wheel is not turned during this repair =|= You can damage the air bag system coil. Put the key in and lock the wheel or use a seat-belt and tie off the wheel so it will not turn.  Take the battery loose. check your radio for any codes to reset it after finished or turn off the lockout before you disconnect the battery. If you have a 3.4 DOHC engine remove the air cleaner and duct work.  You will have to jack up the front of the car and make it secure with good supports and locking the rear wheels, You will be under the car so - be safe, be sure, be safe. You have to remove the front tire/wheels and your jack stands have to be behind the front sub-frame, you can not use the sub-frame for support during this job. Set the wheel straight ahead. Pull back the boot at the bottom of the steering column shaft, mark the coupler and steering input shaft.  If you have the 3.4L DOHC remove the right side engine splash shield, and the exhaust pipe / catalytic / converter  assembly .  Separate the tie-rods ends from the steering arms, count how many turns it takes to remove them. then you can some what preserve your front-end alignment. Support the rear of the sub-frame with a jack giving room to access the rear most part of the sub-frame. Remove the rear sub-frame bolts, loosen the front bolts Do Not Remove them!!! lower the rear approx 5 inches DO NOT LOWER TO MUCH YOU CAN DAMAGE SOME ENGINE COMPONENTS.  Remove the heat shield form the steering gear. Take any pipe or hoses loose form support clips on the body. You will need a drain pan to catch any fluid that drains out. Using a flare nut wrench take loose the pressure and return lines from the gear. Plug the lines to stop fluid from draining out of the lines. Remove the gear retaining nuts and bolts. Pull the gear out of the supports move it forward and detach the steering coupler from the steering shaft. Support the gear and it comes out the left side wheel opening.  To reinstall pass the new gear through the left wheel opening and place it in position in the mounts reinstall the shaft coupler and the bolts/nuts in the supports. reattach the lines, the heat shield, and if you can find them you should use new sub-frame bolts, run the rear in first and then the front, one at the time and torque the bolts to 133 ft-lbsReconnect the tie rods to the steering arms. Reinstall the exhaust system now. Check the wheel center using the marks made on the shaft, be sure the coupler is seated before you tighten the pinch bolt. Reinstall the front wheels, lower the car off the stands. Reconnect the battery. Fill the power steering pump to the recommended level start up the car and ck for leaks, have the alignment checked per a tire / alignment shop.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Radiator hose
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Front cover
    • Timing belt. Refer to the Timing Belt procedure.
    • Water pump
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Upper radiator hose
    • Timing belt. Refer to the Timing Belt procedure.
    • Idler pulley
    • Water pump
now the timing belt.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect PCV hose from cylinder head cover.
  3. Remove the air intake duct.
  4. Remove the left side ground cable from cylinder head cover and disconnect ground cable connector on the left side wheel arch. Remove right side ground cable from generator stay and disconnect ground cable connector on the right side wheel arch.
  5. Disconnect the 3 (black, green and blue colors) engine wire harness connectors from chassis harness of left rear side of compartment.
  6. Disconnect the cooling fan wire harness connector from cooling fan on left side top of fan shroud.
  7. Use a wrench to rotate the drive belt tensioner as shown to remove drive belt.
  8. Remove PCV hose from cylinder block.
  9. Remove intake duct stay from cylinder head.
  10. Remove two bolts for remove ignition cable cover from cylinder head cover.
  11. Disconnect ignition cable from ignition plug.
  12. Disconnect camshaft position sensor harness and crankshaft angle sensor harness from behind generator.
  13. Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the crankshaft pulley.
  14. Remove timing belt front cover.
  15. Loosen the timing belt rear cover bolts as shown in the accompanying figure, then remove the camshaft angle sensor.
  16. end cover off. (belt)
  17. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  18. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  19. Using a box-end wrench on the drive belt adjuster, turn the adjuster clockwise and remove the drive belt.
  20. From the left rear of the engine compartment, disconnect the 3 electrical connectors from the chassis harness.
  21. Remove the crankshaft pulley-to-crankshaft bolts and remove the pulley.
  22. From the front of the engine, remove the nut and the engine harness cover.
  23. Remove the timing belt cover.
  24. Rotate the crankshaft to position the timing marks at Top Dead Center (TDC) of the No. 1 cylinder's compression stroke.

  25. Remove the timing belt tensioner adjusting bolt and the tensioner from the engine.
  26. Remove the timing belt.

but there is one step that varies, per your question , that pulley
Use tool No. J-8614-01, or a suitable pulley holding tool to remove the crankshaft pulley center bolt. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

righty tighty-lefty loosey, or RHT, right hand threads.

on the 3.2/3.5L v6 the center bolts comes off.
and this

Install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the pulley bolt to 123 ft. lbs. (167 Nm).

if car is M/T we use 5th gear, to remove crank bolts
if car is A/T this is a pain, thus the tool above.
how to lock any A/T crank to achieve this is tricky.

i usually just make my own tool, with angle iron
some use a chain wrench, (making a nice ugly mess)

above is wild guessing and to show tip of ice berg, timing belt issues, ever done one before on this engine? T belt??????

Evap canister

The canister is located in a frame behind the left rear wheel, and you will need wrenches, a socket set, and a jack to raise the back of the truck. Carefully remove the hoses from the canister - if you damage the quick connects, you will have a big problem. Then remove the canister frame by removing the bolts holding it (remove the screws holding the left rear plastic wheel well to get access to the front of the canister frame). Remove the old canister from the frame, attach the new canister, and then reinstall the frame.
If you are having a problem with the EVAP system, you should also check the hoses and replace the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP solenoid valve ( typical failure points on these vehicles - if you have a problem with one component, the rest will follow shortly after). The purge valve is located on the bottom of the vehicle near the center of the rear axle (just follow the small purge hose attached to the canister). The vent valve is located on the top right side on the engine. All parts are available from Amazon or a GM dealer.

Where is the fuel pump relay on 1998 mustang???? Exact location???? thanks for your help.

First thing to note is that the relay is housed in a Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). This module contains the relay for the Fuel Pump, Cooling Fan, and Air Conditioning Clutch.

In our 1998 Mustang V6, the location of the CCRM is behind the passenger side wheel well plastic cover. Looking at the wheel dead on - it's found at around the 1 o'clock position. To confirm it's location without removing any plastic wheel well cover - pop the hood, and look for a wire harness routing from the engine compartment INTO the passenger side front fender (near the air cleaner). Flash a light in there, and you'll see a connector attached to the module.

I'll save you some headaches in finding the right size tool to remove the connector as well - I used a 5mm nut wrench to remove the connector from the module. Do this first so that you can access one of the two bolts that holds the module bracket to the fender. user_offline.gif found this at the allfordmustangs web site. hope this helps

How do I replace the front brake pads on my 2009 Mazda 6 2 litre? Can I do it myself?

Step 1 Park the Mazda 6 on a flat surface. Put the emergency brake on and put wedges behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Using a syringe, turkey baster or similar tool, drain two thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder. Remove the wheel.
  • Step 2 Remove the bolts attached to the brake pipe. Remove the bolt cap attached to the caliper top. Swing the caliper, pivoting it downwards. Suspend the caliper from the frame using mechanics wire. Remove the M-springs, the pads and the shims.
  • Step 3 Press the caliper pistons back into the cylinders. Install the brake pads. Lubricate the exterior of the pads using anti-squeal. Install the shims. Install the M-Springs. Reinstall the caliper. Using a torque wrench torque the bolt to 36 to 39-ft. lbs. Install the cap.
  • Step 4 Reinstall the wheels. Add brake fluid to the master cylinder. Bleed the brakes. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Start the engine and pump the brakes 3 to 4 times to seat the brake pads. Test drive the Mazda 6 at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.I hope this helps you and please have a merry xmas

    Hi, i have just purchased a travel bag for my bugaboo cameleon from Ebay which was sent without instructions.I dont want the pram to get damaged on the flight because i packed it incorrectly, can u help?...

    You must completely un-assemble the stroller before storing it in the travel bag. That means removing all four wheels and detaching the bassinet fabric from the frame before placing it in the bag. There should be a diagram on the inside side of the bag which describes the order of placing the parts in the bag. The order from ground up is the seat frame with the fabric, then the stroller chassis, then the wheels.
