Same model only 10k miles. Got it from first owner who didnt use it much. Its been repainted once had stainless fasteners so it looks quite mint but still has some fun surprises in store . . . Unbolted the front brake calipers for the first time the other day to change tyres. all four threads on the fork sliders have been helicoiled and part of the the inserts came out on the stainless caliper bolts. I reckon they are m10 x 1.5. I checked the helicoil topic already - so what I'm asking is: is it OK to replace broken helicoils with same or something better? Will I have to go up a size to M11 x 1.5? how do i get the remains of broken helicoils out? ,Heli coil makes a removal tool,a pointed device, which digs into the coil so you can unwind it. You can probably improvise. Just remember the coil has to be unwound to remove. You may be best off coming from the back side to unwind?? As long as the threads are still good I don't see any reason why you can't recoil with the same size insert?? You may want to use anti sieze on the fastener to keep from siezing again. I wouldn't use anything on the heli coil insert prior to install. Heli coil also makes a coil that locks in place after first time use.,,,

I would like to buy a Moto Guzzi V50 ll owners operating manual. I think they would have been provided with the bike?

Hi, Kenneth the vast majority of service, parts, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain wiring diagrams in the back pages. The rest usually charge a modest fee around $10 and there is a handful of obscure, rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer or never were available. Most of the manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. To download your manual please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

I have a 2010 V7 Guzzi. Great bike except the kickstand falls down while driving which opens a safety kill switch. I brought it back once and the owner of the shop traded it out with another kickstand from...

At this age it should still be under warranty, and even if it isn't, it is strange that it fails after being serviced. Ring the service place/dealer and ask them what they did to it as it was fine before they serviced it. That should make them collect the bike and fix it for you.

Good Luck

Moto guzzi 650 gt -gearbox whine in 5th gear at 50-60 mph any previous?regards

Guzzi is one great bike shy the gear box whine, I've worked on a handful of Guzzi and almost all of them have it. It does seem to get louder as the bike gets older. Keep a GOOD oil in it and shouldnt have any problems. Amsoil makes some of the best motorcycle oil i have found and that would be what i would run in it. During your next oil change check out the gears while you have the pan off to change your oil filter. Everything is easy to see and look at. If there is anything else i can help with or if you have any more questions please feel free to contact me

Third gear very difficult to engage!!! apart from adjustment of clutch why would this occur/ bike has only done 12,000 year of manufacture 2000.

You should see the manufacturers workshop manager. If worth his salt, he will advise you. It is more than likely a bent or broken part inside the gearbox and they will be most qualified to repair.

Suzuki drain bolt oil problem !

As for where the oil drain plug is, remove the four bolts that hold the bottom fairing in place and it should be easy to spot.

As for the repair it depends. How bad are the threads damaged?
If it's a single thread and there are at least 5 to 6 threads total, you might be able to run a tap (same size) through the hole and be fine. Just make sure you use a good flexible washer/gasket to reduce the need to torque the plug down.

If it's worse then you have two choices. The first is to carefully drill out the hole and retap it bigger. The second is the same as the first except that tap size will be a bit bigger and you will be inserting whats called a HeliCoil. Follow the link for more info on HeliCoil.

I have used HeliCoils in engine blocks for years and never had a problem.
Hope this helps

I have a 1994,1340 fatboy . the back right head stripped head bol

They make what is called a HeliCoil this is a re-thread coil that will be as good as the old. You get a kit cost about $28.oo. A set of these coils and a tap to cut the old threads, and a tool to insert the new HeliCoil. ><
