Just wondering if anyone can help me. I bought my son a second hand for the christmas of 06 (2005 model). He has not used it since last summer as I have not had the time to take him out on it we both tried starting it the other day without success. I am not a technical man and I cant find anything on starting it. We didnt use the choke, but I am just looking for some help to have it up and running for him, as he has been deprived of it. Thanks very much lads, he and I will both appreciate it!! ,I would pull the plug to make sure its not fouled. If it is then replace it with a new one. Then try starting it. As far as choke operation, pull the choke out, start the bike let i idle for a minute or two, push the choke back in and continue to warm up the motor.,,,

Need more info, You didn't say if it turns over just fails to start. If it doesn't turn over the first few times you push the button-it sounds like corrosion build up behind the contact point on start button. If it turns over and fails to start, then you might have a fuel issue. That's bleeding off pressure to carb, Float sticking !

Hi i have a 1995 yz250 the bike was fine till one day it wouldn't kick only bump start so I cleaned th carb and the filter then the bike started 1st 2nd kick about 20 mins of riding later the bike...

Hi mate I would be getting someone to check resistance on your stator its a simple test only requires a multimeter but hard to explain on here - From what your saying I think this test could save your headache!
Once stators fail they can be completely unreliable such as allow you to push start but not kick start or allow you to start but as soon as bike warms up fails completely until cold again they even can give false reading when you test to see if spark is at the plug as you see spark but is not strong enough or is sparking at wrong time... I have had bikes come in my work shop where guys have been confident has spark and they have rebuilt and replaced everything you can imagine but all it was the stator failing with not enough resistance..

you sound like you have a dead cell in your battery, if so it needs replacement. A dead cell in the battery can happen from various things, and wont hold a full charge if you put it on a tester it will give you 9-10 volts instead of 12.5 -13 volts, the coil wires run directly from the battery so it has access to full power (makes sense right?) and if your battery isn't holding under full load then that could be the fix for you

Idle speed engine dies when throttled

It does sound like its getting to much fuel, or the lack of air. Air filter ok? If it is you might need to have a compression check done to see how the piston rings are.

Start fail

I would pull the plug to make sure its not fouled. If it is then replace it with a new one. Then try starting it. As far as choke operation, pull the choke out, start the bike let i idle for a minute or two, push the choke back in and continue to warm up the motor.

Weak spark

new battery in itturning over nicely after chasing down a few bad grounds but have very weak spark.I had cam2 in it even and couldnt get it to fire.I suspect coils or possiblly grounds still .Question iswhere can I get these electrical parts for the bike?(dont all answer at once now...)I think I need pickups for the bike as well but am going from memory on that one.ThanksHave you tried changing the ground from the coils to go straight to the frame and NOT through the sidestand cutout? I don't trust that little fella. I've rewired mine so it kills the satrter motor instead - can't start the bike with the sidestand down - and as I never get off the bike leave the engine running with the sidestand it's not a problem. It does mean though that if the switch gives problems (i.e. in the wet) it does not kill the engine.,,,
