2006 Hyosung GT 650 R starter spins but doesn't engage

Hi, Emma the starter clutch is a separate mechanical gear driven component that is activated by the starter motor, it engages the clutch pack gear or the flywheel gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one "ONE DIRECTION" only and once the engine starts allows the gear to free spin with engine rotation. If the starter gear free spins in "BOTH DIRECTIONS" then the drive gear has failed, it might be serviceable on some models but usually needs to be replaced.

Starter click when trying to start new starter install today

If your starter doing nothing after clicking sound, this is telling us the starter is not work. Please check your starter :

1. Voltage input ( it should 12 VDC).If there is power 12 VDC but your engine is not crank/ spin, go check #2 below
2. Check your starter ( its carbon brush==> you may need to clean), starter winding ( check the impedance / resistance ( It should about 0.04 Ohm==> if the value is too far you may use OEM starter and is not the genuine one).

3. If none of above work, kindly return your starter for replacement.

good luck

I got hyosung 650 it doesn't work 2 day ago, I started it but I heard the clicking sound from the solenoid starter. It started to ignite the engine after I slightly hammered it by rubber hummer but it...

Sounds to me like the starter motor is jamming, the clicking is the solenoid working so thats ok. Remove the starter motor and connect direct to a battery but be carefull as if it does run it will jump out of your hand so best to clamp it to a bench. If it is ok its probably the sprag clutch thats jammed. Good luck

No starting

Bad hot wire, bad cround or bad starter. Use jumper cables to jump from battery directly to the starter. If it doesn't turn over the starter has a problem. If it does, than you have eather a bad ground or hot lead going to the starter. Use a DC volt meter or a test light to see if its got power coming from the starter button. Do all that and you'll know the answer.

I wrecked my 2005 Hyosung GT 650S last year, a person in an S.U.V. caused me to wreck and then left me there laying in the road. I am in the process of getting it back on the road and am having electrical problems. The small wire (14ga-16ga) black with white stripe, that goes to the negative battery terminal is getting hot only when bike is running. I can turn key on and it is fine but when bike is running it is getting around 18 amps at idle going through it, according to my Fluke amp clamp, I didn't raise the r.p.m.s during the test. I disconnected my rectifier/regulator and it drops to around 1.5 amps. I disconnected the DC plug on my rectifier/regulator and made a jumper, routing the red positive dc wire to where it would normally go and routing the negative dc wire directly to negative post on my battery, when I started the bike I had 18 amps going through the jumper wire I made from the dc negative on the regulator to the negative battery post. I made an auxiliary ground strap for the regulator housing and that didn't help so I assumed my regulator/rectifier was bad and ordered a new one. I installed the new regulator/rectifier and while the amperage has gone down to around 8.5 amps at idle it is still too high, raising to 15 amps at only 5000 r.p.m.s. My stator output is around 20 AC volts at idle and around 100 AC volts at 9000 r.p.m.s. I think it is the stator because if I unplug my regulator or stator the amperage immediately drops and I can't believe the new regulator I installed is failing in the same manner unless there is another problem causing it to fail. Other than that wire getting hot my charging system is working normally, approx 13.5 DC volts at battery. I also tried a different battery thinking maybe it had been internally damaged in the wreck. Everything electrical that was damaged in the wreck has been replaced, like my headlight and turn signals. Any advice on what to check would be appreciated.
