I have a2008 GR650S and had the same problem. Bought the secondary air injection kit (see link) and the problem as solved. However it does affect the anti-polution compliance for the bike. Fitting the blanking plate to the rear cylinder is difficult.

Why is my atv backfireing


BACKFIRE OCCURES DUE TO RUNNING TO RICH AND EXPELLED UNBURNED RAW FUEL EXPLODING IN TAIL PIPE.WHEN COOL AIR HITS IT FROM DECELERATION THE ENGINES SUCKING IN MORE AIR CAUSING IT..A LITTLE BACKFIRE IS NOTHING TO WORRIE ABOUT IF ITS A CANNON GOING OFF YOU NEED TO ADDRESS IT..THE FUEL TO AIR MIXTURE ISNT CORRECT..I WOULD LEAN IT OUT ALITTLE.

Backfire louldly on deceleration


One of the carburetors could be sucking in air through the vacuum port. Had a similar issue on a thruxton. Triumph puts a rubber cover on them. Sometimes the rubber cracks and sometimes the covers just fall off.

Backfire on deceleration


Backfire is almost always a timing issue. Time it yourself or have the shop do it for ya. If you don't have the service manual, check the library. 646 stacks.
