Have no fear it's perfectly normal. Your four-stroke head pipe will glow red anytime you aren't moving. It just often goes unnoticed because riders are outside in the bright sun.,

Honda gx160 petrol generator, gets very hot on the muffler, then starts to backfire and flames come out of the exhaust on the muffler

You need to get the exhaust away from the generator (heat shield) because it is getting to hot and this will cause it to backfire

Hi Dave,
The reason is that your issue is combustion related. Something is wrong. Look for intake leaks, valve settings, valve timing, ignition timing and advance, correct fuel to each cylinder.
I suspect that this issue would not necessarily cause an engine overheat, but resolve the issue as you are a fire hazard and you will eventually damage the exhaust system and engine parts.

My VN is missfiring even when hot, checked jets & air flow! Any ideas?

Check your spark plug caps(should read 5000 ohms, higher or lower replace) At the same time put in new plugs. It is very common to foul plugs with unleaded fuel. Could be other things causing problem but these are the cheapest easiest things to start with.

Rapid overheating

Hi
The fan should come on when the light comes on, if not check that the switch wires are good & that there is continuity between it the light & the fan
There could be a pocket of air in the cooling system, squeeze the tubes from the radiator to dislodge it
There is a product called a water wetter (probably some sort of detergent) that helps to alleviate hot spots in the engine - Apparently it works well !!

Here's a to some on Ebay ;-)

My 2000 FXDX Dyna Super Glide Sport has a rattling noise coming from the front end. Had it checked out but unable to locate source. Rattling noise happens when braking to slow down.

Check your rotor out closely. Look for a crack in it that runs from one hole to another. The holes are for cooling purposes but if the rotor gets too hot for one reason or another, it'll crack. When it heats up from the braking action, metal one either side of the crack becomes uneven and causes a "click, click, click" noise.

If you don't find any crack, first off that's good, But, then you need a dial indicator to check for warpage of the rotor. Mount the dial indicator on the fork slider and the spin the wheel with the dial indicator on it. Anymore thans a few thousandths could cause the rattle by moving the caliper side to side.

The rotor caliper is mounted so that it will move side to side and the pads are mounted inside so that they "float". They have anti-rattle clips and springs to keep the noise down. Make sure all these parts are in there and positioned properly.

Bike runs great but backfires had jets done

hi,might be able to help,i am hoping that the backfire is on the off throttle,if it is then is quite easy, check the exhaust system for air leaks, air gets sucked into the system through leaks, mixes with the hot exhaust gasses, leans out the mix inside the pipe then bang..1 backfire, the other cause could be particularly if you are running an aftermarket exhaust is that the system is running to lean and needs to be rejetted most times though it is air getting into the exhaust through badly fitting seals and gaskets..hope this helps...cheers ian
