I would try to start it again and all I get is a spinning and whining sound from the starter. It is as if the starter is not engaging somehow. A while after it cools down the bike will start agian. Does anyone have any possible answers. Thanks in advance!A lot of the starters are designed so the bendix shaft shears if it sticks to the fly wheel or over torques. If you remove the starter, connect a pair of vice-grips to the bendix gear. Jump the starter with a pair of cables, to get it to activate. The bendix will probably kick out, but not rotate. You should hear the armeture spin. Otherwise, the bendix will kick out, and you'll hear the armeture hum. If that's the case, check to make sure the fly wheel has been ground down, on the side facing the starter. However, you would probably hear grinding not spinning, if that were the problem.,,,

Bike wont start. starter will turn over but no spark to plugs.can anyone help?

Check all wiring connections on cdi unit - just follow spark plugs leads back. If all cables are ok then you need to check the cdi unit out. Check that cut out switch is not on, although it should not tunr over, if this was the case

1986 xv1100 Starter will not start/turn engin over

does it click to try and start? if so check battery and if it happens again without having left the key on then the gen. might be going out... if the bat. checks out ok . could be the starter itself. remove and take to advance or local car parts store. they should be able to test it for you........if there is no click or any sign of trying to engage or start its either from least to most, the thumb switch to start, a short in the wiring from there to the starter or the battery to the switch or a bad relay or fuse. hope this helps.

I have a 1986 Cavalcade that runs great then without warning stalls out. I think the fuel pump relay is bad. Does anyone know where this relay is located on this bike?? Thanks

Does it stall suddenly...or start sputtering as if its running out of fuel. The fuel pump stopping shouldn't kill the engine suddenly....each carb will empty and you will lose one cylinder, then two etc.
If its dying suddenly I would investigate your sidestand switch....when the bike stalls...do you ever find the starter won't immediately crank?

1986 suzuki gs450, starter selanoid clicks, starter wont run, can the selanoid be the problem? or the cdi?

if the bike start by pushing it , i believe that your battery would be at fault and not your selonoid .
the solonoid can be tested by arching the terminals with a spare battery but make sure the main battery is unplugged .
Also , try to push your bike in gear for a few metres and try to start it after as your starter motor could be sticking .
try this first before going to buy anything and let me know how you go .
Be very careful to disconnect your battery first

1986 Honda Shadow vt1100 does not start.

I don't know if this will help but just for GP the 85/86 Shadow are famous for electrical problems. If it is damp and you havn't cleaned the plugs not spark plugs the connector plugs on the wire harness it may have some buildup of that green stuff like a car battery does some time. On mine I ended up changing the coils and the electric fuel pump. You may have a problem with your stator also. Well this is just stuff I would check if it were mine. I got an 86 that runs as good as any of the new bikes that my friends have and just as fast. I hope this helped some.
