Reeds and so forth. Then drained all the gas out. My throttle is somewhat sticking or not springing back quickly when I turn it. Is this do to the fact that it needs gas back in it to lube itor maybe just needs to be warmed up more? It was 40 deg F today. I haven't put gas in it because I am waiting for winter to end. Also When I add the gas back in the tank is there anything special I need to do before I try and start it? Like pump the throttle a few times or something. ,had the same problem. I popped of the the actuall throttle grip and under it was some caked in sticky stuff. Clean it off added a little lube and its good to go.,,,

Bike running rough at lower revs


If the bike sat without being used over the winter It could be bad gas. if gas sits without being used for an extended period of time it destabilizes and gums up carborators and fuel injectors, you need to add a fuel stabilizer to gas when storing for winter. To fix the problem the gas has to be drained from tank, then refil with fresh gas and appropriate amount of carborator/fuel injector cleaner/treatment. Then start the bike and let it run it should clean itself out and start running smooth. If bike did not sit unused for winter its possible they installed the wrong plugs sometimes they talk you into spending more money on platinum or split fire/gimmick plugs (always use the exact same plug that came in the bike when it was new!!!!!)

Gas leak on my Suzuki VZ800 Marauder


Its the carburetor need to be cleaned probably stuck float or needle seat old gas will do this becomes thick with age. next time you store it drain the carb and if you can fill the carb with carb cleaner then drain that away.

Cranks but wont turn over


Did you drain the gas out before you stored it.

If its carb model, then the carbs probablt need taken off and cleaned.

If it fuel injected, the screens are probably plugged up....dump the gas and try fresh gas

Gas pours out of bike when I turn the key


Sounds like one really crappy and dumb dealer if you ask me. Yes, they usually have gas in the tank on the showroom floor. Yes, varnish can build up while on the floor. The good thing is that cleaning a carb is not very hard.

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Help with getting Yamaha 1981 Special running after winter.

Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Set the idle speed with the idle screw. This process should get you back on the road.

My 'wing won't run unless it has been warmed up some. I would suggest that you r&r your carbs to make sure the jets in the bottom are working correctly. They tend to get plugged up, especially after sitting & the aluminum flaking off inside... Rick

Bike wont start


First thing > install a new set of the stock NGK spark plugs for your bike. Check for spark before installing. If no spark, then check to be sure the battery wires are clean and tight. Is the kill switch on? Is the side stand up? It should be up when starting. Is the bike in neutral? Check the fuses. Check the wiring connections, are they tight?

If spark is present, is the gas turned on? Clean or replace the air filter. If the bike still will not start go ahead and drain the
carbs. There should be a screw on the lower side of each carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carbs to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetors from the engine.

For both
carbs > remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together. Remount the carbs.

Next, remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ). Turn the gas back on to let the float bowls fill then start the engine. Be sure to balance and sync the carbs when finished. If you don't know how to balance and sync the carbs, get back to me after you do the stuff mentioned above. This process should get you back on the road.

91 yamaha fzr engine turns but wont start


the floats in the carb are stuck. you can try lightly tapping on the carb with a screwdriver that should do the trick.
