Question about 2006 Highland Motard

Wont start when cold

I plan on getting rid of my bike to buy a new one. With that said I am kinda confused on what to look for. Can my problem still be something with my charging system? What happened was it was 40F this morning when I got out of work. Bike wanted to start but would not start no matter where I set the choke. It did start for 1/2 second but then it backfired and wouldnt start after that. So I called my wife and she came picked me up (after I tried jumping the bike). Then I had to be back to work at 6:30pm so I left a little early and got here at 6 to try and do some figuring out in the daylight lol. Well anywho just for giggles I put the key in and the dang bike started right up without a hitch. Right now I have the battery in the maintenance shop charging on the trickle charger just so I can get it to full charge. my question is what should I look at that might be causing it to not start in colder weather? Other than loose/broken wiring. Right now I am going to go take the K&N filter off and check it. I know it needs to be recharged but I havent done that yet. The other thing I am wondering is because of the backfire could it be the spark plugs?

Well my filter is pretty gosh darn clean other than 1 bug. I did find one of the 3 wires going to the stator motor that I had respliced looks like it caught fire and burned up so looks like my battery died because of that. Sigh back to the drawing board on that one lol. this time instead of quick disconnects and then heat shrink im gonna use a butt connector and heat shrink.

I am 16 years old and plan on buying a dirt bike this summer. I have been around them my hole life and I first wanted to get a kx80. I thought I would grow out of it to fast and said to myself go big or...

A 250 is a pretty strong bike. I would suggest something like a 125 or 175cc. You can always trade it in or sell it when you are ready to go bigger and that way you are not getting in over your head. Be sure any bigger bike like the 250 has an electric starter. A kick starter on a 250 can break your leg if the bike fires early. The 250 also weighs about 75 pounds more than a 125. Pretty hard to manhandle a 250 in the woods and an inadvertent twist of the throttle can pop a wheelie that can bring the bike right down on top of you. That kinda hurts. Please rate my answer. Thanks and best wishes.

My problem is i'm new to the bike world and just purchase the 08 R1 for my first bike not knowing the power it posses i hear people stating i was crazy but to late cus i'm paying a note for this bike. i'm...

If you want your starter bike to be your ender bike then yes it is a great first bike. Honestly it's kinda like suicide. And you want to jump onto one of the strongest and fastest bikes out there? Do a little more research before choosing because it could literally be life or death depending on your choice. The R1 is a HORRIBLE first bike choice. I suggest you start with a Ninja 250r or something similar. If you don't want to sell and buy another one you might be able to start on a Ninja 500. You do realize that the "1" in R1 stands for 1000cc bike. Be careful out there. John

If i bought a brand new xr250 2005 model why wont it goe quicker

The factory has most likely governed the motorcycle to not exceed a set maximum RPM. They do this for safety and to prevent inadvertent over revving of the engine.

Pulsar's smoothness changes after few kms

ok so its a brand new bike.. though the engine comes with proper boring nowdays but still you shold maintain low speeds  initially as  they are bits which take time to settle. did you ever meet an accident?? this may be a handling problem too..,may be the bike is disbalanced. get it checked in the service centre only.. Hope it works..:))
