Humming sound in engine

This might or might not be your problem, or the fix, but if you have a set of wrenches and sockets, it won't cost you anything.

I had a bike that would "drone" only when the engine was running at 2000 RPM to 2300 RPM.

It turned out it was a loose exhaust pipe mounting.
Not so loose that I heard a rattle, but rather "Mechanical Resonance" (here's a "cut and paste" definition - "Mechanical resonance is the tendency of a mechanical system to absorb more energy when the frequency of its oscillations matches the system's natural frequency of vibration than it does at other frequencies. It may cause violent swaying motions and even catastrophic failure in improperly constructed structures including bridges, buildings, trains, and aircraft. When designing objects, engineers must ensure the mechanical resonance frequencies of the component parts do not match driving vibrational frequencies of motors or other oscillating parts, a phenomenon known as resonance disaster.")

So go over EVERY nut and bolt you can get to and see if any are loose, and tighten them if found, and try it out.

Hello Bipin,
Even I own a Bajaj Pulsar 150 dtsi and even I faced the same issue with my bike a couple of years back. The engine has to face this wear and tear at some stage is understood. The life of the Piston and bore depends entirely on the frequency of the time we replace the engine oil on time. Ideally for best results, I would suggest replacing the engine oil on frequency of kilometres say approx- every 600 to 800 kms instead of the duration you follow. 3 months is pretty long for oil to be replaced. Also, I learned from my mechanic that the symptoms for such issues is white smoke being emitted from the silencer while starting your bike. Losing your top speed and the pickup. For the moment if you are seeking to know if you must undergo the repairs - I would suggest -YES and you need it very urgently to avoid any engine seizure problems. If an engine seizure occurs, then you have no other option other than towing your bike to the nearest service station.

HELP HONDA DEAUVILLE LIGHTHOUSE FLASH

It sounds as if you have a short in the lighting system. Check the connections in the area that you were last working on the lights. Incidentally Xenon lights will not reduce power consumption, if you have fitted a 55watt Xenon in place of a 55watt Halogen you are using the same power. The light output will be a different colour though.

It sounds like something is sticking at a specific resonant frequency.
I'd check the floats and the float valves.
Have to say though, that's a bit of an odd one, but it does sound like it's starving for fuel.
That or maybe it's starting to rotate the choke, but that's usually pretty unlikely.

My bike has travelled 27000klms should the fork oil be changed, what would you reccomend as to what oil, change frequency is not in the service data

The only time you need to change the fork oil is if the seals are bad and it's been leaking. Or you take them apart for some reason.

You can check for a loose or broken motor mount but you need to consider how the rubber mounts work. The mounts absorb high frequency vibrations. Low frequency vibrations will be felt throughout the machine.

On most Dyna's, the bike vibrates when idling. When accelerating though the gears (and decelerating back down) if the engine rpm's gets below about 2000 rpm's, you'll feel the vibration. Once above this level, the bike smooths out due to the change in frequency of the vibrations. I have owned a '94 FXDWG since new and this is my experience with the bike.

However, if the vibration is very bad, you may need to have it looked at by a technician. You'll have to determine that for yourself.

its possible that its valve clearances, but try to isolate at what rpm range the strange sound appears at and when is sputters, the sputtering could be due to a clogged main jet in the carb and the high frequency sound ussually means worn main bearings, but I dont think that with 3000km that would be the problem, try to identify at what rpm you hear it and post again and hopefully i might be able to help

Oil change frequency

I change once a year, which is more or less 3000 miles for me. I use a Purolator Pure One 14612 filter and Amsoil Motorcycle 20W50. Other people do differently, just search for some oil threads. I can't imagine that changing your oil more frequently than recommended would violate the warranty.
