Air filter I cleaned my air filter today and I am letting it dry overnight. Is this long enough?

Yes the air filter cleaner said to always let it air dry because heat can shrink the air filter

Whether to Oil or not to oil a "Hiflofiltro" Road Bike air filter?


Hi, Dennis if you have a gauze or foam type filter you can clean and re-oil using a dishwasing soap in a tub of water let soak for a little while and rinse with clean water let dry overnite then a light mist of WD-40 and your good to go. Good luck and have a nice day.

Wont start after sitting a few months


Hi, Neal if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly then stall, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and the battery needs to be replaced.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove and inspect your air cleaner paper elements that are not oil soaked can be cleaned with a soft brush and low pressure compressed air, oil soaked elements must be replaced. Gause mesh and foam elements can be cleaned by soaking them in a container big enough to completely cover them with a solution of 1 gallon of water and 1 oz. of Dawn dishwashing liquid for small and medium size elements, for monster size double the formula and let soak for at least one hour then rinse with warm water shake off excess and let air dry, "WARNING" do not use compressed air as this will embed micro-sized dirt and road grime and destroy the mesh pattern and stretch foam elements out of shape just squeeze it like a sponge and let air dry, use a fan if you're in a hurry. When completely dry spray a very fine mist of air filter oil evenly around the whole element.
6. Remove the carburetors, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove, clean, and inspect fuel and vacuum lines and replace as necessary.
8. Replace spark plugs with new ones and check for spark.

Yamaha r6 2000 has been sitting for a little while now the problem is the engine only revs without the air filter and air filter box top cover help?

Step by step air filter replacement?


Remove seat, two bolts at rear...
unscrew wing bolt located in the middle of the air filter element
remove filter, and clean the mating area in the air box (WD-40 works well) Make sure not to get any dirt in here!!!
Remove the inner air filter cage, Clean the air filter (Stock ones are foam) I use kerosene or gas, but be careful, wash it then with soapy water and let it dry completely.
Use a foam filter oil, either spray on or in a bottle, and make sure it's covered completely, and tacky, not soaked. (I use Bel-Ray foam filter oil) Replace the air filter cage
Put a small bead of grease on the filter where it mates to the air box, this helps it seal.
Re-install air filter and seat, I use a little bit of lock-tite on the seat bolts, as they vibrate out.

biddy just rinse the filter in petrol then in hot soapy water with some bleach then let it dry off and dunk it in some air filter oil in a clean bowl and ring it in air filter oil once all covered squeze the access oil out and tip back in can its very easy just buy the oil off ebay done buddy

just take it out give it a rinse in petrol then let it dry out and then wash it in some hot soapy water and let it dry out and add airfilter oil if req thats it buddy

'81 Honda CM400C sounds like it's backfiring in air filter


K&N air filters let a much larger volume of air into the carbs my guess is that you did not re-jet the carbs therefor you are not getting enough gas. the way to check this is to take a shop rag ( clean ) wrap it around the filters may take more than on rag this will reduce the amount of air volume if bike runs better thats the problem. my guess is you probably just have to go up one size to solve the problem. Bike runs at Idle but dies when given gas


have you changed the fuel filter? you are not getting enough gas, are jets squeaky clean? there is a good fuel system cleaner in the USA called Berrymans B12. put some in the tank warm up bike then let it stand overnight and see what happens. if still no luck repeat process. if you still have same problem then get new fuel filter

Cleaning an air filter


I just cleaned the filter on my Kawi last weekend...followed the instructions from the service manual: 1. Remove Filter 2. Remove loose dirt with compressed air 3. Rinse filter in solvent a few times 4. Squeeze dry, dry with compressed air 5. Saturate a paper towel with 30W oil, and lightly tap oil onto foam side of filter. The solvent insures the old oil comes out with the dirt. The new coating of oil is VERY light..
