Violet i have checked the ground at the headlight and it is good. I also get no power at the yellow wire coming from the stator i do get power from the white wire coming from the stator. If i disconnect the wires from the headlight i then get no power from the white wire off the stator. if i disconect the yellow wire from the stator i also get no power from the white off the stator all connections seem to be fine and the bike runs great. the bulb is good please help! thanks all.,It sounds like you may have lost the stator ground or one of the windings is open. Measure the resistance from the yellow wire to ground and from the white wire to ground. Each winding should be less than 1 ohm to ground. You should also be able to measure resistance across the white and yellow leads. Here again, less than 1 ohm. __________________,,,

Is there a headlight relay on a 1987 Ford Ranger 2.9 V6 4WD---that can go bad causing headlights to quit working? Can a relay be tested? If there is one where is it located?

Hi. I can try to help with one part of your question, testing relays, think of it a two separate parts.
Usually they are 4 terminal devices.
Part one, a voltage is sent across a (winding)coil, that goes to earth.
Part two, THAT operates a switch, one of those terminals goes to a power source, and the other to the headlight bulb.
Part two terminals usually are bigger in size than part one.
a meter should show a reading across the winding (coil) part one, and part two, should show "zero" ohms across the switch contact, when power is applied.
(This is only correct, if, the relay is working, so have a practice on a known good unit)

Do you know how to do basic automotive electrical testing ?

Headlamps Inoperative - Low Beams

Disconnect the headlamp switch.
Turn the headlamp dimmer switch to the LOW position.
Using a test light, frontprobe between the headlamp switch harness connector terminal D to ground.
Does the test light illuminate? YES - NO ?

Headlight Switch

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ The headlight switch controls most of the vehicle's lighting systems. Many complaints concerning the lighting systems can be the result of a faulty headlight switch. For example, dim or no instrument panel lights, dim or no headlights, dim or no parking lights, and improperly operating dome lights can all be caused by the headlight switch.
Dash-Mounted Switches
f36-12.jpg A headlight switch. You'll need to remove the switch to test it. With the switch removed it can be tested for continuity and the connector plug will serve as a test point for the lighting circuits. First test at the connector.
In this procedure the terminals are identified as follows:
  • Terminal B = battery
  • Terminal A = fuse
  • Terminal H = headlights
  • Terminal R = rear park and side marker lights
  • Terminal I = instrument panel lights
  • Terminal D1 = dome feed light
  • Terminal D2 = dome light
Consult the service manual for terminal identification for the vehicle you are working on. If this is not listed in a separate chart, you should be able to identify the circuits from the wiring diagram.
  • Connect the 12-volt test light across terminal B and ground. The test light should light. If not, there is an open in the circuit back to the battery.
f_aee_cc14.19.jpg Testing for battery voltage to the connector. Reprinted with permission of Ford Motor Company.
  • Connect the test light across terminal A and ground. The test light should come on. If not, repair the circuit back to the fuse panel.
  • Connect a jumper wire between terminals B and H. The headlights should come on. If the headlights fail to turn on, trace the H circuit to the headlights. Also check the ground circuit side from the headlights.
  • Connect a jumper wire between terminals A and R. The rear lamps should illuminate. If not, trace the circuit to the rear lights. Also check the ground return path.
  • Connect a jumper wire between terminals A and I. The instrument panel lights should come on. If not, trace the circuit to the panel lights.
The chart below indicates the test results that should be obtained when testing the headlight switch for continuity. use an ohmmeter or a self-powered test light to test the switch.
Steering Column-Mounted Switches
On some vehicles it is possible to test the steering column-mounted switch without removing it. The test is conducted at the connector at the base of the column. However, on some vehicles it is necessary to remove the column cover and/or steering wheel to gain access.

WHY PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT BULB ON 2007 YUKON DENALI WILL NOT WORK

Remove plug from light bulb, using 12 volt test light hook up ground to negative side of battery, then touch probe on positive terminal to make sure test light is functional.next- turn lights on and then probe the plug at each terminal- there should be one wire that has power and the test light should light up. If the test light lights up then you need to test the circuit ground for the wiring harness. So remove the test light clamp and put it on the positive post of the battery. Now retest the test light by touching the probe on the negative post on the battery and the test light should light up. Next with the headlights off-probe the other terminals and if there is a good ground in the harness the light will light up- if not then there is an open condition in the headlight harness- a broken wire or a bad system ground. If both tests are performed and either condition does not happen then a wiring schematic will be needed to perform the repair. This is after all fuses are presumed good.

2004 monte carlo has all lights except front main, major headlights...can someone help with this issue??? pls?

check the halogen headlight bulbs and plug in connectors, rarely they both wipe out.... seems more like a headlight switch replacement is in the making, if you know how to test the circuitry with a test light see if you are getting power to the headlight halogen bulbs, these switches do have a reputation of burning out.

1987 LINC.LIMO/EXCALIBUR..PROBLEM:2 HEAD LIGHT SWITCHS MELTED ?

OK, if you are to modify the original system to use the Large Excalibur Headlights and you are burning out the headlight switch, I would try to ask the electric shop to put a relay in there that can handle the increased load and have it hooked directly to the battery terminals so that it won't burn out your stock switch which has plastic in it.

Headlights quit ,were working fine and just quit, checked the fuse,it's ok,do not think plug is getting power.running lights work, taillight works?

Using a multimeter check for voltage across the headlight fuse if yes then follow headlight power wire to the connector under the tank, if power is present then check for power at the headlight plug
It is quite common for wires to split inside the harness where they go around the headstock. This is because of chafing & stretching as they move with the handlebars
Hope this helps

2004 honda civic driver side headlight won't work even with new

Assuming you've already ruled out that the bulb is fine, get a test light and verify there is power (make sure headlights on when doing this). If there's no power check headlight fuses with test light. If fuses check out okay, there may be a break in the wire between the fusebox and headlamp, follow the wire and check it for damages...

When I don't have access to a test light, i use any 12v car light and hook it up, but if you have to do this make sure the makeshift test light is fused or you could destroy it. Yes power should be 12 Volts DC.
