Low Oil light at idle

I found out that the oil light on the 2007 FSR I'm looking at comes on at idle. The owner said that there is some fix that has to do with the clutch cover?! Can someone tell me about this problem

And whether it may have affected the longevity of the motor? All bikes in Australia had a recall for the clutch covers. If the crank seal in the clutch cover is faulty it loses oil pressure. Some times it could be just a faulty switch. You will se that Gas Gas fixed this on the 08 bikes by removing the switch.,

On rev counter on my aprilia rs 125 oil light flashes at idle When on stand and at high revs whilst riding,is this lack of two stroke oil or engine oil,can any body help, thanks

Hi, Anonymous some bikes the oil light gets its signal from a low oil level sensor in the oil tank while other bikes get their signal from an oil pressure switch and non two stroke oil is for the transmission only, for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. I have a '83 Honda Nighthawk that I'm having oil light problems with. Once the engine gets warmed up, usually after about 10 minutes of riding, and I come to a stop sign/light the oil light comes...

If your oil pressure light is coming, you probably have low oil pressure caused by worn engine parts. Usually low oil pressure is observed when you are idling since the pump is pumping slowly. When you raise RPM's, the pump speeds up and pressure increases. Take the bike to someone who can diagnose it properly, but it sounds like it is time for some repairs.

Oil light comes on ,there is oil in res

The first thing to check is the idle speed. Your engine should be idling at about 1000 RPM or so. If it's idling too low, the oil light will flash on and off.

Check the wiring to the oil pressure sending unit or replace the unit. It's located on the underside of the right engine cover just forward of the pump.

Run 20W50 oil in the engine.

Good luck

Several things could be at play: Type or weight of oil, confirm this first. Not to question the rebuild but if not done properly (improper bearing clearances, too large) the oil pressure can be low and perhaps a worn pump too. While I am unfamiliar with the engine and oil pump loaction I'd check it if your able too. You'll probably need a good set of feeler gauges to check this if these clearances are outside of the pumps limits the pump will be less able to create pressure; this is of course more evident when the oil heats up.
Another cheap fix is to use a heavier weight oil.
Hope this might help,
Tom

Oil pressure

Your Bike is a dry sump system oiling system which simply means that the motor needs to be revved up to get oil to the top of the motor. The readings that you see are actually normal (look closely at the gage and you'll see that you are actually are around 5psi at idle and in the 30psi range while moving). Great Bike!

Grinding sound from engine at idle and under low rpm load and gets quiet around 3800rpm

The crank bearings are probably trying to tell you something. How much oil is in the gearbox? When was the last oil and oil filter change? Anytime you hear a grinding something is seriously wrong. Change oil and look for metal in the oil. Also run a magnet through the oil.

I'd say do an oil change replacing the oil filter AND cleaning the oil screen. There might be a blockage. Also, check to make sure your idle isn't set too low. Slow spining engine means slow spinning oil pump.,,,
