Could the pads have already worn down so fast?  has anyone had this problem? The higher the humidity the more noise mine makes not so loud as to be a squeal but noticeable. I kind of doubt they are worn out. You may have a shoe thats glazed that would do it also. The linings may need to be lapped down at the edges. Any drum brake rear bike squeals if the edges are higher than the center found that out on a Suzuki GT 250 I had 25 years ago. ,,,

Hi, Rick I would love to help you with your engine or chassis noise but I just loaned my brand new pair of listening ears to your local dealer's chief technician so he could take your bike for a test ride and give you his professional opinion and estimate about your noise and repair cost. If you are a little short on "DRACHMA" and a Dealership is not on your list of fun places to visit then perhaps the list below will help soothe your worried mind so you can make an informed decision.

Loud ticking in engine and rear breaks worn out at 1932 miles Harley says they are not responsible for the breaks being worn out and they don't know what the loud ticking is. Might be on the top side...

The loud ticking could be a tappet on the cam. Most people refer to these as "lifters". Each tappet has a roller bearing on the cam end of it. The roller rides on the camshaft lobe. If the bearing locks up, it wears a flat spot on the bearing and scars up the camshaft. It also makes a loud tapping noise. Since I don't have any connection to Harley-Davidson, I cannot tell you anything about their warranty. But, I don't see how the brake pads could be worn out in less than 2000 miles. But, they do consider brake pads as "normal wear items" just like most auto makers do and they will not replace them under warranty.

Good Luck

Can hear grinding noise from front and rear brakes. very loud noise when back up from rear brake.

it could be a knackered wheel bearing, or the pads are worn, or theyre rubbing, check all pins/clips and bolts are on correctly nothings too loose or tight (depending on what it is)

Break light doesnt work on back break only works on front

The rear brake light is operated by a pressure switch located underneath the bike. Find the metal brake line that comes out of the master cylinder and heads back towards the rear wheel. Somewhere in the line there is a "tee fitting" with the pressure switch screwed into it. Replace this switch.

Need to know how to fix a flicker in my brake light when shifting to second to third gear . there must be a short somewhere . i have taken apart the hand brake and there is no corrosion at all . i road...

Spider, have you tried a new bulb? I've seen a filament break in a bulb and when you hit a bump, the light would flicker. The only way you're going to find the problem is to duplicate it somehow when you're working on it. If the light is flickering "ON", more than likely it's the front brake light switch. Get someone to stand behind your bike or back it up to a wall or something so you can tell when the brake light flickers ON. Shake the front brake lever and see if you can make it do it. Then move to the rear brake pedal and try that. If it flickers then, replace the pressure switch in the metal brake line. The line comes out of the rear master cylinder and goes back towards the rear wheel. There's a tee fitting what the pressure switch screws into. Check the wires on the switch as well. You may have a problem there with the two wires touching each other and turning the light on.

Good Luck

When i press on the rear break, the break light does not come on. break light will come on with the front brake engaged. have checked the bulbs.

The rear brake has a pressure switch that turns the rear brake light on and off. If it's working correctly with the front brake, this switch is the first place I'd go to. Make sure the wires a firmly plugged onto it.

You can find the switch by following the metal line that comes out of the rear of the rear brake mastercylinder. It'll have two wires connected to it.

Back Rotor & brake replacement for 1500cc intruder have Question

>< Try this link for used parts. I would not use Aluminum rotors. To stop the squeak I would try a different brake pad. But you can take the pads off and file off the leading edge chamfer it a bit with a rasp. Not a lot but give it a 45 deg. both of the leading edges.

Rear breaks

Do you stop when you put on the brake? Any funny noises? Does the foot lever go down and back up properly? Any further determination would mean a dissembly and visual inspection.

Brake lights

The taillight should be on at all times. The brakelight should come on when the front or rear brakes are applied. Start by disconnecting the front brake light switch then the rear to see which switch is broken. Also check the bulbs. I have seen them short out internally. The filament inside the bulb break and contacts the other circuit.
