Question about 2007 Enfield Bullet Electra

False neutral Has anyone experienced a false neutral between 3rd and 4th gear on an Electra? is this simply a quirk of my bike? I accept that the shifting is a little clunky on this bike but this shifting into neutral between 3rd and 4th at speed is somewhat annoying!

There is pretty much a false neutral between every gear on an Enfield. You need to ease the gear up or down and do it by feel more than a hard up or down movement

You need to change with a posative movement . Most old British bikes are the same. As you say its a lazy change. If your used to driving Japanese stuff a lazy change is easily developed.

Hi, David for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. My 2004 1500 Vulcan Nomad will not stay in gear 2nd thru 4th gears? It started off as a momentary thing where when I went from 1st to 2nd it would go into a false neutral. now it won't stay in gear at all...

Always start with the easy (read cheap) stuff first. Make sure that the clutch is fully disengaging when in gear and engine running. If bike 'clunks' and lurches forward as soon as you shift into any gear, it may simply be that your clutch needs to be bled and/or adjusted so that you are fully engaging/disengaging the gear. More likely, however, the shift lever was subjected to a heavy foot resulting in the shift fork being bent. This prevents full engagement of the gear resulting in it popping out under load. Unfortunately, this repair requires a teardown. Continued operation with the tranny popping out of gear will round off the shift dogs and create an even more very expensive repair.

Some times when i change down from 3rd into 2nd i hit netraul and from 2nd into 1st i get netraul only happens when engine is hot. xl1200r 2006 model

The transmission "neutral" position is located between 2nd and 1st gear. You say you're also getting a "false neutral" between 3rd and 2nd. Since you say you're finding both, it leads me to suspect that you are not being aggressive enough when shifting the gears. The Sportster has the best shifting transmission of all the Harley motorcycles. Since it does shift so easily, riders sometimes "soft shift" the transmission and wind up missing gearshifts. This is the most likely problem, rider error.

Now, there is the possibility that the clutch is dragging but that usually effects the transmission when upshifting, not so much downshifting. With the engine off and switch on, put the transmission in gear, hold the clutch lever in, press the starter button. If the bike tries to move forward, you need to adjust the clutch.

My bike is not shifting into fourth gear, it goes into neutral instead of going into gear. The rest of the gears work fine, i have already tried adjusting the shift linkage to no avail. any help would be...

you might have something bent inside your tranny, there are things inside the tranny take can wear out cause a false neutral. i'm given you link so you can see the gear and things inside your tranny the gears side and lock into one another if the " dogs" that lock the gears together or worn it can cause a false neutral.

i would have a local shop take a look at it. lucky harley has a separate tranny from the motor while the can get very costly this could be your chance to upgrade, baker has a really nice 6 speed talk with your local shop.
Good luck

False neutrels between 4th and 5th and 5th and 6th gears

shifting forks are all out maybe, but make sure your clutch is working good and fully dissengaging , if clutch is good, you need tranny repairs

Neutral light does not come on until 2nd gear is engaged

The neutral light should only light between 1st and 2nd gears. There may be a "false neutral" at other places. Wear exacerbates (i love big words) the size of these but they don't hurt anything as long as the bike shifts well.

Motorcycle won't shift gears

You have bent shift forks my friend. You can take it to the dealer for $$$$ or ask a mechanic in the shop if he fixes bikes at home. This will cost a lot less. My guess is $600.00. Get a firm price before the work starts.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!
