I just got a new (to me) ST2. I do have a couple of questions though. I'd like to improve the low beam. Has anyone run an 85w bulb? Did you need a relay? The bike currently has a Ferracci pipes and chip. It currently smells pretty rich. I've been slowly backing off the trip pot but at least at idle it's still stinky rich. Are the Ferracci chips known to run rich? Thanks.I have the FBF Forza pipes and a FBF stage 1 chip and my '98 ST2 runs pretty good. Actually night-and-day between it and my stock ST2. Actually I believe it runs a little lean with the airbox mod because it lean pops on hard decel. If I crack the throttle a little it won't do it, though. The bike doesn't smell rich at all. As for a headlight improvement, I'm a cheap bastard. After cleaning the lens of the OEM headlight and improving the light a little bit, I still haven't convinced myself to buy Paul's headlight upgrade....but I'd like to....I'm just too cheap. The rare occasions that I am riding at night, my wife is always with me on her bike, so I let her lead and I either chase her taillight or actually use her headlight when looking through the curve. In a nutshell, just shy of adding some ugly-ass PIAA lights to the ST2, you'll need to buy Paul's upgrade or just deal with the crappy OEM light.....I guess some of us kind prefer to have something in common with mushrooms.,,,

Motorbike light low beam works both hi and low beams and dim. Hi beam, side light work good. Bad earth? Did replace headlight shell with a plastic one, made an earth wire between indicator bolts.

Hi, Anonymous if your headlight is not working, only one beam works, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
9. Weak charging alternator/generator.
10. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

My headlight and horn do not work. The fuses look good and the bulb looks good. Headlight worked before I went out on a ride. It was out by the time I got home.

The driver side headlight is dim. This is caused by loose
ground contact of the headlight ground terminal. Have
a check on this by tightening it up or reconnecting to
good ground (chassis).

Headlight wont light

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Depending on the version, normally there would be two (2) relays for most Kawasakis that control the headlight(s). Often the hi-lo relays (with white connectors) would be behind the gauges. Again depending on the model, some would not have a headlight on/park/off but only hi-lo as the headlights automatically switch on when the engine is running.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
