Oil pressure I am having a problem when my 2000 750 ss gets a little warm. When it gets to idle the low oil pressure light comes on. there is plenty of oil in it. is therte any reason for this to happen?

if your saying that your low oil pressure light is coming on (or flickering) at engine idle , but goes out when engine is above idle (going along) this is sure sign you have a problem in your engines oil pressure system :

some common reasons for this to occur are:

worn out engine parts allowing oil to leak out and not lube parts properly (hi engine miles)

low oil level -not enough oil inside engine to get pumped around proper


restriction in oil system - blockage in oil passageways even oil filter will count (hi miles)

500 rpm when not in gear seems a bit low but not ridiculous. Oil light comes on when oil pressure is too low. Is your oil very old, do you fail to change it ever. Or your idle speed just isn't high enough to maintain pressure. You may need a new oil pump.

this means a mechanical gauge test is required to check actual pressure warm idling if low below 20 psi then the oil pressure pump relief is stuck open or engine bearing are worn

What is the make/model of the Jeep? What engine? Are you losing pressure completely or is it just low at idle? Many older Jeeps show little oil pressure at idle when the engine is warm. If you aren't hearing rattling like you are actually losing oil pressure, and the pressure comes up when you accelerate, you are probably OK.

you must obtain an oil pressure gage you can use a inexpensive type like you would hang under your dash. remove the oil pressure sending unit from the engine, a little oil will leak out when you remove it, no big deal. install the add on gauge and see if the pressure at idle with the engine warmed up is over 20 lbs. if not you probably have bad crankshaft bearing but you would want to see what htings look like inside the oil pan.if the pressure goes up to about 60lbs when running fast. and is very low at idle the engine is probably worn out. if the oil pressure drops when it is running fast you may have a plugged oil screen.i have found paper towels and rags inside of engines.

How's the anti-freeze doing? Usually when you see white smoke coming out the tailpipe it's because you are getting anti-freeze in the exhaust somehow. Try to sniff it a little does smell like anti-freeze, or oil? I don't know why the oil pressure would be low unless you are getting anti-freeze in the oil. Does the oil look milky, knda like chocolate milk? The low oil pressure could also be a faulty gauge, you may want to have a mechanic put a mechanical gauge on the car for test purposes.

Your engine oil pressure is low. Things that can cause this, are: Worn engine, oil viscosity too thin, oil pump failing, clogged pickup tube screen, filter clogged, or the pesky little oil pressure sensor is going bad. You'll need to hook up a manual oil pressure gauge to where the sensor screws in, and see what you're actually getting for oil pressure, and then decide from there as to what troubleshooting action to take. Sounds more like the Throttle Position Sensor or another sensor is letting the engine RPM's drop too low. When the RPM's are too low, the oil pump is not pumping enough oil.

I'd say do an oil change replacing the oil filter AND cleaning the oil screen. There might be a blockage. Also, check to make sure your idle isn't set too low. Slow spining engine means slow spinning oil pump.,,,
