Question about 2002 Ducati 750 SS

1 Answer

Top speed I've heard the top speed of my 01 750SS is 120mph. I've never had the guts to see. Mainly because of how I heard Ducati limits top speed. I was told a very (harsh) rev limiter kicks in when the governed top speed is hit. I would think having the chassis unload rapidly at 120mph with no steering damper would possible cause a nasty head shake. And

A crash. The reason I ask is with all my mods my bike doesn't stop pulling. If I crack the throttle at 70mph it just climbs. 8090,100,110 with no sign of slowing or mellowing out. But once I hit 110, I get scared of the rev limiter and back off. I mean, if 120 was the true ungoverned top speed, I'm sure the power would mellow off at around 110mph and just slowly inch it's way to 120, right? Anyone with more guts that can shed some light on this subject?? Remember, it's a 750, so your 900cc opinion should differ greatly,i have an 800 so probably just a little difference from your 750. not much though i wouldnt think. first the rev limiter is not so bad. i have not hit it in 6th gear, but have hit it in just about every other gear including 5th. just try it out in a lower gear to see for yourself. it will just kind of cut out. nothing violent. definately makes you wanna ease up or shift up though. mine also pulls very strong up to about 120 mph. 120-130 takes some time. and 130-140 takes quite some time. i have only seen low 140's (speedo indicated. reality is probably about 130 mph as everyone says there is about a 10 % error on the optimistic side) i have run out of road before hitting the rev limiter in 6th everytime. just takes so long to get there. but i would think up to about mid to upper 140'S (again indicated) would be about it. doubt 150 mph could be hit just based on rpms at 140 ish (8000 ish) and how slowly it gains speed on the top end.,,,

Bmw e46 330ci, will not go past 120mph, can this be a vanos problem?

Most likely 'speed limiter' programmed into ECM.

I've gutted all my catalytic converters and car still wont accelerate smoothly or go over 80 mph

gutting the cat converters was not a smart thing to do
the ECM needs feed back from the sensors to regulate the air/fuel mixture and now you expect it to do the job with half the sensors removed
like trying to brush your teeth with no hands
replace the cat converters with new ones then run the fault codes to really find the problem area

Ducati 1990 900ss weber carburetor

You are being told wrong. Low speed problems may be do to flot level set to high. Do you have only low speed issues?
If mid range and high end are ok, that would also point to the same carb problem.

998 Top Speed?

998 is a great bike... they arn't super fast top speed is 162mph and its gear limited not electronically limited. It will take you a while to get to 162mph quarter mile is 11.5 sec @ 135mph, so I'd guess, 15 sec or so too 162mph, from a stop. You can get a modern-day corvette to do better,,,
