Question about 1985 Ducati 750 F1

Running rough My 2000 Monster 750 is running rough at low rpm. It is running rich(black smoke/flame)

Fouling plugs and backfiring. Runs much better at high RPM's. I realize that the problem is likley worn needle jets after reading through forums. I am just looking for a little direction on what to do exactly. I haven't messed with carbs much and am concerned with messing something up. I have a Haynes manual, but still am lost.,Hi, I have a 98 M750 that I have had for 8 years and it has done 110,000Klm (68,000 miles) when it had done about 20,000Klm it was doing the same thing as yours fouling plugs and running rough at low speeds, so I took it to a good dyno tuner and he found the bottom end rich and the top enp end lean, resetted the floats and rejetted all good again. So just find a good dyno tuner. Let me know how it is going after the tune up.,,,

My wind bike seems to be having more black colored smoke emissions? whats the problem? the valve was mop already and adjusted.


I am not familiar with your Baja Wind 125 motorcycle, however, normally, black smoke is associated with too much unburned fuel in the exhaust - too rich a mixture. Is your choke fully open when this is happening? Are yo usure? Remove and examine your spark plug(s). I expect they will be sooty sooty black. Is your air filter clean, the air path completely unobstructed? Have you messed with the fuel adjustment? (I am not familiar with the term 'mop') Is your bike equipped with a Cat Converter? If so (not likely ...) it may have to be cleaned or replaced.

Some times, black smoke or sootie plugs results from using too low a gear, not running the engine fast enough for the riding conditions. Usually, the engine will buck if you are expecting too much from it by being in too high a gear. This is a very rare condition, having too low RPM for conditions.

FYI, Black smoke = too much fuel, Gray or Blue smoke = burning oil (worn rings?), White smoke (in water cooled engines) = water in the oil, blown head gasket or other trouble.

If your bike was recently serviced, I suggest you return to the mechanic and have them take another look at your motorcycle. If not, this may not be a bad idea anyway. You do want your motorcycle to perform optimally, right? Best ride and economical operation = most fun.

Some other things you can try, get a hotter plug. Replace the air filter.

Running rich, poor idle, cuts out easily at low


It is not from water in the gas, something else is causing the problem, but I don't know what, yet. Does your bike have the new CAN wiring? Little thin wires running all over the place or the old style fat wires? If it is new style, you shouldn't have a problem with it getting wet, but the old style had 2 junction boxes up front behind the headlight, that doesn't like rain. It could have been enough to make it run lousy. Check it out and clean it if you have to. The next thing to check is the coils, the only other thing that can short out. Your bike is basically waterproof, so the washing might just be coincidence. check all the wires on the bike and under the seat, just to make sure nothing wiggled loose. A smaller car 12v 4 or 5 amps charger will do the job, the slower the battery is charged the better, so use the lower setting if available.
charge it out of the bike, this way you can check the water level, and if it overflows it wont spray acid over your engine and frame.
If it doesnt start the bike after a charge, get a new battery, as running a sad battery can overload the charging electrics. and dont jump start it of a car battery that will accept more amps than the bike can produce

My 2004 springer is running rough put new plugs in it let run 5 minutes plugs fouled out black smoke out pipes any suggetions?


Hi ,
Your bikes engine is running too rich !! , you will have to set the air-fuel mixture ratio.
Try to check the air filter it may be too dusty and kinda clogged thus not allowing air to go in.
If all is ok thn you may have to clean the carbs and reset the float in the carbs.
