As soon as I got down here the bike started dying about 15 to 20 minutes into a ride. This bike has never given me a single problem prior to moving. It seems like something electrical to me but I really have no idea where to begin. I'm guessing (wild shot in the air here) that some component is getting hot and failing. I could walk downstairs and start it up now and it would start fine and then fifteen minutes later it will die and not start until it has cooled down and sat for a bit. This has happened four times now. I keep it in the neighborhood since I am expecting it to shut down and I end up pushing it home. I've drained the gas and replaced it checked all of the connectors I could get my hands onto. I had some crud on the positive terminal that I could see glowing, so I cleaned all of that up. I'm planning to tear the engine down soon anyways, but I'd like to know what is causing this before I get started. If anyone has experienced this, I would appreciate any info. Thanks guys. When the bike is dead, begin the diagnosis by determining which of the three required elements are missing; i.e., air, gas, or spark. Once you determine this, then systematically trace upstream from the engine, using a good shop manual which describes the systems. Most manuals, like Haynes or Clymers, have a troubleshooting section which may help you once the missing element is identified.,,,

08, 1125r...Just bought it. On my first ride i noticed gas drips from tube on the back of bike opposite side from exhaust. I assume this is an overflow tube but it drips gas for 15 minutes after every ride...

It is a known issue - you can take it into Harley but last guy I knew with that issue - they had the bike for a month and gave it back to him no changes said they couldn't replicate the issue. The gastank on the bike is getting hot causing the gas to evaporate and create pressure inside the tank - hence the gas dripping out of the pressure vent. Some guys have put some heat insulation in between the side of the tank/frame and where the headers get close. Other guys just wrapped their headers with thermo wrap - seems to help tons.

sounds like a problem i had with my v star if u can charge it and it starts and runs for a bit then dies again check the rectifier which charges the bike

I was also facing the same problem with my Discover125 for a while.When i went to the service centre they said it happens with most of the Discover users.According to them there may be a possiblity of water going inside the Carburator and due to that this missing is happening.Earlier my choke was not working, but now i have rectified my choke assy and i use the choke when ever i face this problem and the bike runs ok. That sounds like your alternator might need to be replaced.

Tape Transport

Be sure that whoever is replacing the elevator assembly ( transport module ) is putting in a NEW part and not an old part that is still works.

I would start doing this repair yourself... there are only:

4 screws


2 cables: one that powers the cassette load\unload motor
and the other is the tape sensors cable

once you pull the cover

they are very small phillips head screws: you NEED a very good, long, small Magnetic tip screwdriver.

Tthere is a manual screw drive near the loader \ unloader motor: it has a Red plastic phillips head drive screw.
This manually moves the Loader assy in and out: you will need to move it to uncover the two screws that are near the front of the machine.

when you find these screws: its a good idea to mark them with a red Sharpie, for easy finding next time..

If the machine is getting heavy use, then 5 months may not be that bad, if the machine is babied should last alot longer.

either way you can get a handle on the situation and save youself some money by bringing this particular service 'In House'

I did this fix last week on this unit.
it took me 15 minutes.

if you have time to help that is. Can you put the MV Agusta F4's exhaust pipes on a Ducati 748 Could it be done? I love the MV's quad-exhaust system but really am not a fan of the MV's looks - I preffer the Ducati's looks. I can't choose whether to get a MV Agusta F4 (1000cc) bike or a Ducati 848 - I love the Duc's looks and the fact that it has approximately 849cc (its true 1000cc may be too much for me to handle - especially as an everyday ride!). If I had it my way I'd get the Duc and wack those MV pipes out back - oh and those 190mm rear tyres (just for looks!). In all seriousness I really want to know the following: 1. Which will be a more civilized tool; i.e. which will be better to live with everyday? 2. Which bike will be easier to learn on (yes I know they both have way over 800cc, but still I wouldn't mind your opinion on this!). (When I say learn I mean learn to ride on because I have a younger brother who can learn using my new bike.). 3. Which of these two bikes can carry a passenger (I actually haven't seen the bikes yet because they are on order and have not arrived yet.). I really want to be able to take someone on the back of my bike every now and then. 4. Last but not least, if I got a Ducati 848 can I get those exhaust pipes on it! mine did exactly the same, its draining the battery and dukes wont run if the battery is drained. the battery will recover itself when not running therefore will start, but will soon use what little power is left in the battery then die. all u need is a regulator rectifier, its a little black box under the seat and takes 2mins 2 change, should work, if not, get a new altinator. start the bike up, and connect a voltage reader from eack battery terminal, should read 13, mine was reading 10.5, changed the reg rec and all is good. give it a try, hopes this helps

Had enough

it feels like it will stall. Doesn't do it all the time maybe after i've been riding for 20 mins or so. At the time i thought it was the Throttle position sensor (or so i was advised by Ducati Melbourne) and that cost me over 1k to 'fix'. I say fix because it reduced the problem. Instead of doing it every ride it did it maybe once every 4-5 rides. Have no idea what it is, taken it to dealerships and of course it won't play up on them when its there. It hasn't done it in the past 4 months, since i changed my sprockets and chain over. Then last night, it was a warmer night so i took it out and guess what, hour and a half into the ride started misfiring to the point where it was almost unrideable. I thought it could be a heat problem, even though last nights weather was around 14-15 degrees Celsius, i've ridden in warmer weather during the weekend. I've dropped enough coin on this puppy and although i love her to death i think its time i move on and remove this headache.,9 times out of 10, what your describing is an A/F mixture problem. I don't remember why we agreed with you, the timing sensor could have been bad, its been a while. Have you tossed the bike on a dyno and check the A/F mixture? I wouldn't doubt its way off and to be honest, it could be a very simple adjustment, you're dealer never found.,,,
