Question about 1983 Ducati 500 Pantah

1 Answer

Oil consumption My GT didn't use a drop of oil until after the first service at 670 miles. For the first 50 miles I kept the revs under 5500 rpm but I consciously loaded the engine (under acceleration and with engine braking) to seat the rings properly. I had the first service done at 670 miles and the dealer used Bardahl 10W40 fully synthetic. I am now at 2

300 miles and I have had to top up the oil every periodically (I fill to the middle of the window.) In 1600 miles I have used 800ml of oil. Is this normal?6900 miles on my PS. I followed the factory's recommendation regarding break-in by keeping the revs in the recommended range AND riding it on twisty mountain roads (a part of the factory break-in recommendation that many people fail to notice/mention) that provide the varying loads on the engine that facilitate good break in. I've not had to top off the oil yet. I change it about every 2000 miles. I use Castrol GPS o,,

Yamaha yp 400 2005 majesty will not go faster than 50 mph and revs no higher than 4500 rpm what is the problem?

Fuel starvation? Twisted or kinked fuel line? Some may be getting through to run the engine but not enough under load. Throttle adjusted properly? Only enough movement for low rev range.

check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up

Hi, I have recently purchased a GSX1250FA LO. It has only done 1800 mles and I have noticed the oil level is dropping and I have to top it up. Is this normal?

When you say it's dropping you didn't quantify by how much. If it's slowly dropping, with only 1800 miles on the bike, it may still be breaking in. If that's the case, it would be normal to expect a higher than normal oil consumption until it is broken in.

I've been reading different information about the type of oil to use in my 1986 Yamaha XJ700X bike with approx 8K miles on it. Some folks are recommending 10-40 and others are recommending 20-50 synthetic...

If you live in hotter climates like 85 degrees and above, use the 20w50. If you ride mostly under the 85 degree, use the 10w40 that is recommended by the factory.
